We finished Greece and Alexander and started to learn about Rome on the history lessons. Therefore like a diligent schoolboy I've determined to be the most intelligent in these occasions, but because unfortunalety swotting doesn't belong to my favorites, I've installed RTW again. This fact won't be enough of course, but it will help a lot and at least I'll enjoy the history preparations...And on monday, I'm gonna make a great presentation about the structure and main events of the ancient roman army. :)
I've been playing EB. Wonderful mod its what RTW should have been. I've played RTW since the day it was released and this mod has made RTW a real strategy game. Though i also play America's Army for those times you just feel like blasting away at someone.
Cant wait for MTW2/Oblivion to come out, but I'll need a new computer, and possibly a prepaid carpal tunnel medical bill before I get them.
Wine is a bit different, as I am sure even kids will like it.

How's your Julii campaign going? I have a Julii Campaign on hard also, has been an absolutely AMAZING campaign. I switched around in my head so many times about who my 1.5 campaign was going to be with but I never thought that a Julii campaign was this cool.Originally Posted by TosaInu

I'm at 264 BC or so. The 1.5 patch makes the campaign more of a challenge than 1.2. Failed to talk anyone into a protectorate yet, more naval battles, especially huge pirates (but no port blockades, though I've seen Egypt and Macedonia blocking Brutii ports for many turns in a row). I'm at war with Gauls, Carthago and Dacia (though when I was doing some deep raids, Dacia was suddenly neutral
) and I just accepted a cease fire with Greece (they asked and I demanded tribute). My cities are regularly under siege, some revolt, but the AI falls short in battles. I'm going to torture myself with a general camera. Previously you had only to withdraw once on campaign maps to avoid war, that's no longer the case, enemies hunt my armies down. Not sure whether the patch made the AI movement smarter or the difficulty setting.
The Julii are the toughest Roman faction afaik: Gauls and Dacia at the border. Brutii and Scipii have secured homelands. The 12tpy is nice, very nice indeed. But senate missions become much less an issue. A good thing, but it also removes some pressure (it seems to count passed winterturns only to decrease senate time).
I'm having a 10 star general, and traits are flowing in. Neither Dacia nor Gaul is beaten, though pretty dented. I'm worried about what is beyond those, now things develop. It can become a sour apple to bite. Capturing Rome was the most difficult thing to do previously, I may declare war early on and make it a true nightmare.

I have a normal difficulty, RTW v1.5 Julii campaign that I haven't looked at in months now, but the AI does consolidate it's armies and puts generals into those armies. Spears work better and this helps the AI since it's pretty good about making advantageous matchups. I lost a couple of battles to Gaul as a result which never happened in v1.2. Just the same, I crippled Gaul fatally by fortifying a bridge which they attacked incessantly despite massive losses to themselves.
One thing that wasn't so good was that Carthage had a 26 unit army on a ship (don't know how they got 26 units on one ship) and it just kept sailing around until a pirate ship sank it eventhough those troops were needed to defend it's cities. Carthage was fattly crippled after that since that ship had over half its army strength, and it has no way to replace it having lost too many cities. Numidia holds North Africa although Scipii has a presence there as well. Egypt makes no attempt to expand into North Africa. Dacia and Selucid are eliminated with Armenia and Parthia soon to follow. Scythia and Thrace are dormant.
I play with fog of war off, and it's still Egypt dominating in Asia Minor Brutii knocking off Greece and Macedonia and Britannia dominating in Northern Europe. However, I find it more difficult to expand so these dominant AI factions could be quite difficult to beat once I make contact. I don't use any diplomacy, and just play conquest with armies. It's not so easy to dominate the sea, and you seem to have to make a choice between that and land armies.

I'm building chains of fortresses to safely jump my general from one spot to the other and guard mountainpassages.

Why only civilised factions? The barbs are a lot of fun too.Originally Posted by Tiberius
I don't play any of the TW games anymore. I'm having some fun on FIFA 2003 on the PS2.
I really need a new game though.

Maybe I should install Civ4?
I'm actually really bored of RTW (it's the only one I've got). I don't think I could play MTW or STW because I'm used to the graphics of Rome.

The Gauls are blocking my port now, for some turns. Nasty big fleet too.

lack of decent buildings and troops after the early stages makes the game boring. barb music also sounds worse imhoOriginally Posted by Craterus

I've been playing Medieval XL and NTW recently specifically Venice/Piedmont.
I usually alternate between those campaigns and a VH/VH Pontus campaign. Usually when I get frustrated with one I play the other and vice versa.
