    Default Best Version

Which patch version is the best for vanilla RTW (No BI)? (Considering bugs,AI and things like that)

The latest, I suppose - 1.5 without BI.

    The latest, 1.5, I agree.

Some people might mention 1.3 as better, but they're livin' in the past, man.

1.5 if you mod out Large Stone walls.

To get rid of the seige tower bug? I hadn't noticed that on RTW...yet.

Whats wrong with large walls? Pathfinding issues in towers?

I.m guessing he means the seige tower bug. Happens on large stone walls (maybe epic too).

Just a clarification that 1.6 and 1.5 are exactly the same in regard to the original RTW. 1.5 is for those without BI; you only use 1.6 if you also have BI.

If 1.5 got rid of the new version of the load/save bug (the need to save and reload each turn) then it might be worth considering. I´ve tried 1.3, however, and due to the mentioned new L/S issue it took the enjoyment out of the game really quick, as I tend to do long sessions and very seldomly save.
For now, it´s back to 1.2 for me.

Yes, it did. I can't see any reason to stick with 1.2 unless you want to play some of the bigger mods (RTR and EB).

Yes, I was referring to the siege tower bug when assaulting large stone walls. If you haven't seen it yet it's probably because the AI factions in your campaign haven't progressed far enough to have large stone walls.

Once they do en mass, then it'll put you off actually conducting the siege assaults and make you autocalculate them.

Yup, I don't play RTW as much as BI these days. So my latest campaign hasn't got very far.
Mind you, in BI it's a royal pain in the butt. I usually just build more towers than I need so that it doesn't matter if a couple malfunction.

What is this bug? You're right, I have not seen it - what does it do?

It's the bug where the towers reach the walls and then your soldiers forget how to climb the tower. They just wander around the base of it getting badly shot up.
Only happens with large stone walls (maybe epic too... haven't had to assault them). Happens with about 1 tower in 4 by my experience.

This bug fix alone is worth the upgrade.

The tower bug happened also to me once. Better said, it happened to the AI, so it saved me my city too. But still i would recommend 1.5/1.6.

I haven't noticed the seige tower bug on 1.6. I had heard people referring to a "pila bug" before, but I'm unsure what this refers to...

Indeed. Now they throw their pila even when they are engaged in melee (they sometimes did this in 1.2 too, IIRC). Still, it's an improvement over not throwing at all, I suppose.
