I love how worked up his teacher and school became. Heaven forfend, a middle-schooler with violent fantasies. Nobody going through puberty ever thought about lashing out at society, ever.

No. Middle school was particulary repressive, in my own experience.

when i was in Jr High me and my nerdy friends would write and swap short stories that usually involved our school under siege by a mass murderer or criminal masterminds, or having a bus ambushed. Inevitably, all the people and teachers we didn't like would be killed by the badguys, and all the nerds would save the day. It's so odd to think that I could've have been charged for doing that
