    Default Votes for new members!

Now I know that newbies are the spawn of Satan and that they should be thrashed twice daily but are their rights so restricted compared to regular members? I know this change came about a few weeks before the release of BI, when it was feared that the horde of noobs would descend on the org like the barbarians rushing to Rome and burning the whole place in ,massive flame wars , but it is now five months since BI first came out, and thought the news of MTWII has caused much interest, I don't know how many people would want to join fansites because of a few screenshots and previews.
I can understand why the backroom should be off limits to junior members, as we don't want a bunch of hotheads who have not proven their worth or good conduct igniting flame wars in the Backroom which is normally like a tinderbox anyway even without the junior members. But Beirut and BKS' Kingdom of Peace and Love (Where you will love your neighbour, by axe point if necessary)? The Monastery? What mischief could they make there?
I therefore propose that junior membership status should be made as it had been in the situation immediately before BI, with ability to post and read topics throughout the forum except the Backroom.

Yes, but why can't they post in the rest of the forum, barring the backroom?

Despite its laid back, intellectual exterior, the Monastery can get quite heated when certain topics are discussed. In these instances, it could be quite disruptive to have a new patron jump into these topics with guns a'blazin' when they are unfamiliar with the friendly, civil atmosphere the Org tries to maintain.

The system is a two edged sword. Do the protective benefits outweigh the new members scared away by it? It is hard to say, but I can't help but think that some of the real headaches with new(er) patrons we experienced here after the original Entrance Hall system was removed could have been prevented had it still been in place. Any new patron who blows their top over the system for the sake of a one to two(?) week period of restrictions is probably not the kind of person we (as patrons) would want stomping around our forums. A little patience is a virtue. However, it probably does become a barrier to someone who'd be a more casual patron. It wouldn't be worth their while - at least in their mind.

Anyway, though I usually lean towards favouring the system, at times it does seem to be a burden.
