The Huns

Alright,

So I am the Danes and have conquered Spain, France, England, Scandinavia, and Western Germany.

The huns have just appeared on the map, and they certainly look really really scarry.

Are there any pointers on where the Huns attack to? how to deal with them? Best defense? And general any tips on dealing with the Huns if they come knocking at my door.

I assume you mean the Mongols, because in M:TW Huns refers to the Hungarians, who are not that scary. The Mongols always appear in Khazar and possibly Georgia and some rebel provinces. They usually conquer the northern and eastern steppes, though sometimes they turn south, but they tend to exhaust themselves quickly. However, they are nutters when it comes to attacking Kiev. You can really bleed the Mongol Horde by taking up position behind the Kievan bridges.

The Danes are pretty safe from them, as the Hordes will be dispersed and weakened by the time it reaches your domain, if they ever reach it. Should you face them in battle: Mongol and steppe cavalry are very good, and their archers are able to missile duel and fight in a melee, but they lack heavy infantry. A combination of pavise arbalesters and good spearmen, supported by some heavy cavalry and perhaps some polearms, should be able to hold them off. If they attack you, take position in forest to weather the arrow rain and try to irritate them with pavise fire. Should they try to charge you, withdraw into the trees and cut them up there. If there is more than one stack of Mongols, do not follow them when they withdraw, because their reinforcements will cut you to pieces. When attacking, use a methodical advance with pavise arbalesters supported by anti-cavalry troops and cavalry.

You can always expect a long missile duel, so you should take pavises and not archers. Also, Mongol units have a high morale, so it will take some attrition before they begin to waver. They are mobile, so trying to out-cav them is not an option for Catholics.

A last consideration: Mongol units are dirt cheap in upkeep, so bribing them can be a wise investment: you will get top-notch cavalry for a bargain price. I always like to take over substantial amounts of the Horde after the Khan has died: rebels are far cheaper to bribe.

Good summary, Ludens. All I'd add is, the Golden Horde is particularly vulnerable to assassination. It's probably too late for that now since you have to train up a fairly large body of good assassings, but wiping out the Horde's leading familly isn't all that hard. Then the horde become rebels — and a great bargain to bribe.

Strategically, with as much of Europe as described, don't worry about it too much.

Your nearest territory to them is in western Germany, that is some distance from the Mongols, even at the best of times they are no more a danger than a standard faction by the time they reach Poland, Eastern Germany etc.

Infact its a triumph of the game I think that the Mongols have the initial shock and power to overwhelm their immediate neighbours but tend to fizzle out and lose momentum by the time they enter eastern Europe.

Youve been given good advice by the above posts, follow that if you come across any Mongol forces, but its highly unlikely they will be a major problem.

If your the russians than its extremely easy to beat them. Halbadiers just eat them up like fat kids on cake ( ) . One unit of russian halbadiers (Which means the usually have silver armor) can wipe out 3-4 cav units.

Hint-archers dont do so good firing into trees.
