Thread: Questions on groups

    Default Questions on groups

    Right,

I have a couple of quick questions that have been bothering me during my couple of months here. What are these groups?

Senior Members - From the Sms I have seen, these guys have been around the org for a while, they make positive contibutions to the community, they're generally friendly and stuff. Is this how they are picked? Do they have any roles or is it just more of an award for being a good member? So yea, info on SMs please.

Assistant Mods - Whats the difference between an assistant mod and a normal mod?

(Heh, the way i'm starting topics you'd think i've only just discovered the watchtower lol)

Contributions can range from creative endeavours (such as mods, art, guides and stories) to leadership and commitment (organization of community efforts, running events) to being a fine, honourable, upstanding member of the community. It is a way to recognize and say "thank you" to those who make the TW community a better place. Post count doesn't matter much: there are Senior Member's with less than 400 posts, and Members with thousands.

Two or three times a year, the Staff nominates Members who they feel are deserving of the Senior Member title. Only 10-12 Senior Memberships are approved; if more are nominated, that list is whittled down to the required number.

Senior members get a slightly larger PM mailbox, a title under their avatar, free beer at KukriKhan's house (although apparently none have so far shown up!), and the publicly displayed respect of the community.
That's taken from The Guild FAQ which, whilst being nowhere near finished, does have the odd useful nugget of info squirreled away.

Assistant Moderator (AM) is a tad more tricky, as it's probably the least well defined group at the Org. At the most basic level, I would say that we are Members who assist the Staff (Moderators) around the forums. Some run quieter/niche forums, whilst others directly assist Moderators in the busier forums. The duties/responsibilities are tailored to the task the AM is being asked to do. So we are Assistants to Moderators. Hence the name.

IIRC, one distinction between assistant moderators and full moderators is that typically only the full moderators have disciplinary powers e.g. to give out formal warnings. There have been exceptions - e.g. some AMs in the Backroom - but where possible TosaInu tries to avoid AMs having to do the "nasty" stuff.
