Thread: What is this "buildings" problem with 1.5?

Default What is this "buildings" problem with 1.5?

I'm still trying to get 1.5 onto my cpu (darndest time that), but I'm wondering what folks keep refer to as a killer problem for buildings and 1.5. What is the issue (or where is it being discussed even) and has anyone found ways around it? I've asked elsewhere, but I suppose this is the best place to pose the question.

    Thanks for any help!

There is a problem with some country-specific versions of 1.5. You can't add a new building tree because the game CTDs when building the .rwm file. However there is a cure for that: you need to create building cards for those new buildings and place them in the apropriate culture folders in the \ui section.

That would explain why I've never had any rwm generation problems - if it is country-specific. Which countries though? UK and Norway seem OK :)

You would think that adding more "redirects" (for the entire culture, like carthaginian redirects to egyptian for example) for those building graphics would get around this entirely though.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place where issues or problems with 1.5 (or differences that modders should know about) is kept. Is there a thread like that or a discussion?

edit: I'm also getting some very weird results with hidden resources in 1.5. Like basically they don't work. If I say a building requires hidden_resource not_here - and then no provinces have it (or for testing purposes I put it in one province that I'm not using here) - then I shouldn't be able to build that building - but I can build it anywhere, by any faction. What in the world have I done wrong here?...

That's strange. For me, they work exactly in the same way as in RTW 1.2.

I mainly use hidden resources for recruitment, but also I have a dumm resource, that is not present in any region. It is used to make a building "unbuildable", and it is only created through script.

I haven't observed any weird consequence.

Well, that sounds promising at least. I was getting really worried. I thought I did some simple tests, but even the "dummy" resource we were using doesn't seem to work. Maybe a limit to them was put in place that is screwin' with them or something. Thanks for the reply though - and if anyone else knows anything about these issues, I'd love to hear more about it.

edit: This sure is strange though. I edit edb.txt to have a simple building with this requirement line:

    Code:
            precursortype1 requires factions { all, } and hidden_resource nothere
I put "nothere" in the list of hidden resources at the top of EDB.txt also. Then I put "nothere" in one province in descr_regions.txt just to be sure. So every other province does *not* have it. And this is *not* buildable in 1.2. But now, in 1.5, I can build it everywhere. Every single province. What in the world happened?

I cannot find any apparent mistake. Just compare with the entry in my EDB file:
wall_tech requires factions { barbarian, eastern, thrace, numidia, } and hidden_resource muralla
"muralla" is the dummy hidden resource, placed in the first line of the file
hidden_resources sparta rome italy romans gauls celts iberians greeks africans italians raros muralla
and not present in any region of descr_regions.txt

As possible tests I would suggest:
    - Put the names of factions or cultures in the requirement
    - Is there one or two blank spaces after }? (I don't know if this is important)
    - Try to rename the hidden resource

I'd like to be of more help, but...
