    Default Next gen Video

I've been looking at the two differing formats and of course they are very impressive.

But call me a cynic, but does anyone else feel that a large part is to create a format who'se filesize is so large that again copying/keeping on PC hard drive / downloading is largely not possible?

You mean blu-ray vs HD DVD? You might be right, but when you want so much more info (lots and lots of pixels at 1080 screen size), you have to have lots of data. I don't doubt that some new internet method will come along to allow 20GB files to be downloaded... err... faster than 10 days anyway. Also, I think Dell is advertising Terabyte hard drives. That is a lot of 50GB movies! Or naughty internet things. Whichever.

But I thought an accord was reached so we don't have to worry about the Beta vs VHS squabbling.

A system (Like ddsl, adsl and so forth) has been devolped - udsl if memory serves- that allows 100-200 mbit for every user, so downloading movies of a couple of gigs isn't realy a problem. Download speeds develop faster than movie sizes anyway. nothing to worry about

Sure, you must mean optical cable? I think the maximum limit for copper is about already reached with VDSL, or something like that.
