    Default Upcoming Tactical Armour Game

Looks promising to me, though limited in scope: Panzer Command

Ahh... I think I will keep this in my scope. It seems quite to my liking, but I think I will want to see a vid of it as I am a bit uncertain to the system.

I played both Panzer General (back to the first one, boy did it have a superb voiceacting) and Close Combat (still great style of fighting).

It seems that it will be quite similar to the Combat Mission series (which I like very much). It is clearly much more sophisticated visually, but so far I haven't read anything which suggests it improves on CM in any other way. And considering how limited the range of vehicles and situations will be, I'm certainly not sold yet. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

If it comes remotely close to Close Combat, I'll take it.

For some reason, I couldn't play Combat Mission. Unfamiliar turn system, undestructible buildings, and strange graphics/animation turned it away from me.

PG I? You mean the one with the interesting voiceacting for each case (win/loss for each battle).

The orders system does take some getting used to, but after an hour or so it became quite instinctive for me.
I'm pretty sure buildings are destroyable, though it has been a while since I played.
Yup, the infantry animations are rudimentary, at best. But on the other hand, quite a number of various stages of morale are differentiated in those animations, something which isn't even touched on in so many games...

But in the end so much of a game's appeal comes down to even slight differences in personal taste. Gord knows there are piles of well reviewed games which I can't stand.

I played Combat Mission 2 - buildings were taking tank fire like it was breeze - not a single scratch. Now maybe this was some bug related to my graphic card or something, but it was like that.

Turn system was unfamiliar after CC, but I guess I could get used to it. The other mentioned things made CM unplayable.

IIRC buildings can take a lot of hits if you are firing at it with some low caliber tank gun like a 45 or 50mm. But bigger guns should take out building pretty quickly.

Maybe that was the case, but I didn't like the building didn't take a scratch. Not a piece of roof fell off. IIRC, I was shooting with T-34.

Well, let's hope in this upcoming game buildings do take some damage you can see before they fall.

The thing I liked most about CC that 2/3 of victory was a good defense/offense plan before the battle with an appropriate placement of the units. Making ambushes, lines of fire, finding the best spot for artillery (anti tank and such) - if they manage to make that again, then I am looking forward to the game already. MTW2 and EU III are on the "must play" list, maybe this is the candidate for the third spot.

Not a game-breaker for me, but, sure, it would be nice.

For the record, definitely true for CM as well.

Yup, I hear ya, though for me WWII:RTS is still ahead of this game.

Hmm, all of this has got me thinking about the Combat Mission series... God I love them... Hundreds of different types of afv's, each with a complex and specific damage model... a detailed infantry veterancy and morale model... a great map and mission builder... the anxiety of desperately calling in artillery and then waiting five agonizing minutes for it to come down- and the pure joy when it arrives just in time...

Ya know, if I had to pick just one desert island game, one or other of the CM series would definitely be in the running. I'm in love again.

You bet - the very first one :)
I love taking weird (and preferably long) paths through the campaign trees. I do it over and over every year or two - been doing it since it came out...

But back on topic, this does indeed look very interesting. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.
