Thread: My suggested changes for new patch

    Default My suggested changes for new patch

    Koinon Hellenon:

    for the overhead map;

    I like the change of representation for the faction territory colors from that of a solid color with a contrasting boundry, to that of one solid color representing one empire entity. However, with KH being an alliance of city states, it needs it's representation to be accurate to what it is.. a group of city states. What I am suggesting is giving KH's borders a contrasting color, like that of a vanilla faction, or like the Eleutheroi to better represent it's identity as an alliance of independent city states.

    Building construction times:

    a top tier barracks can run you 13k and take 20 turns to build.

    that's not my gripe. my case is that when you construct stone walls that encase a city, such an undertaking should take considerable time and money, as just a gatehouse alone could equal the material required for that top tier barracks. Cost, build time, salvage value, and repair costs of walls need to be increased.

    Unit recruitment times:

    Should professional soldiers take more time to recruit?

    extending the time it takes to train disciplined, professional soldiers would add a level of elan that is lacking. One would learn to better appreciate each unit for not just its cost vs. potential, but now for its cost/build time vs. potential. That makes it a whole new ball game. If given the option between recruiting Taxeis Phalangite, and Pezhetairoi, ill always choose
    Pezhetairoi with no concern to the minor difference in recruit cost / upkeep. Now if you tell me it takes 2 turns to recruit Pezhetairoi and only 1 for Taxeis Phalangite, i'll really start to think and weigh the options. Rome wasnt built in a day, and spartan hoplites shouldnt take 3 months to train. Mercenary upkeep and availability should be toned down as to not offset such a change. Hell, their availability needs to be toned down as it is atm. Just recruiting out of two regions will net a full stack of troops.. that just doesnt feel right.

    Unit / building availability limited to resource availability

    Vanilla RTW and im sure EB has it where elephants / camels cant be recruited without a region containing such. Adding certain metal requirements for better armor / weapons, certain metal/stone requirements for particular buildings, or certain wood requirments for ship/building/archer types etc, etc, would better give each region its own identity. Now if it could be scripted that trade rights with a faction containing such resources would give you availability to their recruitment or construction, would certainly add value to trade rights in general.

    Thanks for the suggestions - we'll never have a wood/stone/metal sort of requirement for buildings because we determined quite early on that this would not be a realistic representation of how ancient cultures acquired and used resources.

    Will next patch feature Spartan hoplites, as well as other faction elite units?

    No. The spartans aren't done. The next patch that comes out will be one that mostly deals with ctd's and text problems and banner swaps and traits, etc. Those are things that don't have to be repacked. The repack that has new units and new building icons and GUI's will have to be a whole new download of the mod.

    Are ya'll still looking for a skinner / modeller to finalise the unfinished units?
    Also if ya'll are still interested in the custom made spartans that modeller's have made i can spam ya'll with about a dozen. Of course 11 of 12 i would post would be out of date for the period, but it might give insight as to who might be up for the job of modelling a current one.
