Default Senate mission to attack Julii

I'm playing as the Brutii and I've just received a request from the Senate to take Domus Dulcis Domus, which is held by the Julii. Is this serious, or are they planning to double-cross me and outlaw my faction if I attack? I've never had this happen before, so I'm stumped!

Wait a turn. If they don't cancel it the next turn then it rebelled from the Julii. If they do cancel it then no problems.

Heck, do a quick save, then plunge into a bloody civil war. If the Senate stabs you in the back just go back in time and start that turn over. Its a learning experience enjoy!
Then, Sir, we will give them the bayonet!

What does the diplomacy tab say? Are the Julii still allied with the Senate? Maybe they've been outlawed.

If they indeed have been outlawed introduce your pointy ends into their fleshy bits.

Oooh and don't forget blunt trauma for their more resilient sections. Sometimes you have to break away the hard, cold, unfeeling exterior to get at the creamy middle inside.

For this I task I would normally recommend a tin opener but as they haven't been invented yet a big stick with a lump of metal on the end will do just as well.

Thanks for the advice - they cancelled the request after a couple of turns, then did the same thing with another settlement a few years later. Clearly the revered senators hadn't been reading the Julii's dispatches from the front!

    I hate the senate....

they have missions to far to reach if you still have to raise an army.. or you cant hold the city under a decent siege..
Block ports of cities you are trading with... wrediculous!

what I always love is that they reguarly ask you to block ports of any cities one of them are involved in a war with...which is the same as telling you to "declare war". However, you could have 7 barbarian factions just STREAMING down from the north and west, allied, attacking you with clear conviction to destroy you, and even after offering the Senate or another roman faction 10,000 denarii (along with the fact that you're allies with military access/trade right granted automatically)...they absolutely refuse to give you any help.

This is another thing that needs to be worked on a little for the next patch...diplomacy among fellow romans needs to show a little more "cohesiveness"...as it is now, it sends many mixed messages about who's on whose side.

The question you need to ask yourself is thus: If a Diplomat from another Roman faction showed up on your doorstep, cap in hand, seeking your assistance against foreign invasion, what would you say? I'm just as likely to let the barbs wipe out the other faction, I can then deal with the barbs and gain former Roman lands without the grief of civil war.

The AI is meant to be a challenge, in its own slightly mentally challenged way, together the three Roman factions could easily clean up the map. Just ignore senate missions you do not like,...the world won't come crashing down. I only accept the missions that give me a positive gain and definitely ignore ones that will cost me troops (war) or money (war, again).

    Cheers.
