I got this from a freind of mine in Canada.
Things like this restore my faith in human nature (at least the good bits)While it may not have been noticed in the UK it was big news over here. In the women's team sprint (x-country skiing - two women doing alternate laps for six laps) the Canadian was leading on the third lap when she broke her pole. Slowing dramatically she was overtaken by Norway, Sweden and Finland before a coach on the sidelines gave her a pole. It was a man's pole - six inches too long (yes, I know Bruce) but it allowed her to stay in fourth place some way back. Over the next two laps - expending too much energy - the girls caught the lead group. In the final sprint the Canadian didn't have enough left and slipped to second - Sweden taking the gold and Finland the bronze - Norway ended up fourth. So what? Well, the coach who gave over his pole was the Norwegian coach - he said afterwards "That's what we do in our sport". So perhaps the Olympic spirit isn't quite dead.
Any other examples out there?
