    Default Oblivion preview at Gamespot

    There's a hands-on preview at Gamespot.
    Sounds pretty good. Enjoy!

to be honest, from the preview, it doesn't sound much better than morrowind. The only improvement they made to combat was active blocking? I thought bethesda was working hard to make combat more tactical....

Damn it, I need a job...

Then again, Spring 2006 at least gives me a bit more time to save up...

It does sound very like Morrowind, although having a stronger narrative and better NPC speech would be a very big plus for me. For decent combat, I find it hard to imagine it beats Mount and Blade.

I liked Morrowind a lot... so better graphics, a more linear AI... and so on and so forth is more of an improvement in my eyes... then say making it a 30 hour or less, high action thriller sort of RPG. I mean, yes, obviously theres always room for improvement, but if Bethesda holds true to it's historic, awesome moddability, I don't think theres too much to worry about. If all oblivion is, is a morrowind with a serious graphics update, and more economic player activity, then I won't compain too much.

More of the same is really all I want out of Oblivion. Any improvement is a big plus.

Hope they make it all right, or they might get beaten up by Gothic III.

If combat is similar to M&B, and it may well be, then I will be happy. But what this would mean for M&B I would not like to say....

Yes, I was just wondering that. I did not much care for Morrowind's combat and when I read that blocking in Oblivion was to depend on the player's skill rather than the character's my heart sunk (being a slow old guy). But then when I read how hitting was a left click and blocking a right click, I suddenly realised it sounded awfully similar to the M&B I've been loving.

It won't be, at least in the biggest part for me... no mounted combat. Which sucks for a horse archer lover.

And I'm super pissed that the downloadable content (including the ones released when the game is), like horse armor and holidays, we have to pay for. Damn you Xbox.

I'm not up to speed here: why is there going to be horse armour when there is no mounted combat?

    Exactly.

Bethesda has said that their will be no mounted combat. And yet they expect people to buy horse armor (in RL, not in game...) I suppose a horse can be attacked, but it could just be decoration.
