    Default archer range

Does anyone know what archers have the best range and for what faction that is?

If I recall correctly, there are only 2 archer ranges in the default version of the game. Normal and long. Any archer unit that has 'Long Range Missiles' should have the same range as other units with the same attribute. The range of normal archers is 120 I think, and those with long range missiles is 170.

Chariot archer and elephant archer crews fall into the shorter-range (120) category.

Horse archers use a combination of both the shorter and longer ranges, EG standard horse archers = 120, persian cavalry / scythian noble archers = 170 etc.

Cretan archers, Balearic- and Rhodian slingers defenitely falls into the loooooong category. Haven´t played the vanilla since its release so I can´t remeber anyone else (that´s not already mentioned above).

In a recent battle I had to edge these guys uncomfortably close to get them in range. They are definitely shorter range than Cretan archers. Whether they are shorter range than even standard archers, I don't know but maybe.

Standard slingers have 80 range, Balearic and Rhodian have 120 - the same range as the normal archers.

Yes, that's my impression too. I think I read somewhere on the RTR forums a claim that the best slingers (using staff slings) could outrange archers.

Yeah, that would be the island slingers mentioned above. They always hit me before my archers come into range but I can´t recall ever having that problem with the cretan archers though. Or maybee my memory doesn´t serve me right.
