Random neutrality

I’m playing as the eastern empire in BI, I was happily destroying the Sassanid’s in Arabia and Babylonia and with no warning or diplomatic intervention I suddenly became neutral, is this normal a bug or something. Just thought I’d share

This kind of thing happens when a faction that you are at war with allies with a faction that is already allied to you. It is especially annoying when you almost starved out a garrison because the siege is automatically lifted. Also, if you attack your former enemies, your ally will stick with his new friends.
