Bring it on! If I can shoot up 100 feet in 2 seconds on the highest rollest coaster in the world (Stratosphere, Las Vegas) and be stoked about it, I can take that on, any time, any day.

The rollercoaster on top of the Stratosphere sucks. All you do is go round and round in circles. You sure you aren't thinking of I think it is 'The Big Shot'.Originally Posted by Wakizashi

I agree with you. I remember the last time I went to an amusement park, it took my cousin 30 mins to persuade me to get onto a roller coaster. Luckily it was only a minor roller coaster, so i did not pull of a stunt like that lovely lady.Originally Posted by Tachikaze

I've been to Cedar Point many times... easily the best amusement park in the world. They have something like 15 rollercoasters. That said, that is not a new coaster and it is not (IMO) the scariest in the world. It's certainly a fun ride, but it's short and doesn't have the buildup of great peak coasters. One of the scariest I have been on is actually the blue coaster in the background of that photo. That one used to be the highest in the world with a first peak at 300ft. That has a traditional ramp-up to the first hill which is really where you get the majority of the scare factor IMO. You then drop at an 80 degree angle down the hill and reach 90+mph. Add to that the fact that the Top Thrill Dragster is a relatively short ride and the Millenium Force lasts a full two and a half minutes and I'll take the Millenium any day over the Dragster.
Of course, you can only make these kinds of comparisons at Cedar Point. This place has about half a dozen coasters that would be the ultimate major draw coaster at any other park. I highly encourage anyone who loves coasters to take a trip there. If you live in Michigan or Ohio and haven't been, you have no excuses; shame on you!
If anyone wants videos/photos of these in action, there are tons on their website. http://www.cedarpoint.com/

HersheyPark in Pennsylvania has a little brother to Top Thrill Dragster called Storm Runner. It was built the year after TTD by the same company. It has only a 180 foot drop compared to the 400+ drop of TTD and the launch reaches 72mph in 2 seconds compared to 120mph in 4 seconds for TTD. Although Storm Runner seems to be half the coaster of TTD if you look only at the stats, it is more of a ride. TTD just has the (very) big hill ("Top Hat") - you go up and come right back to the station. With Storm Runner, after the Top Hat, the ride is far from over. It goes immediately into an Immelman, followed by a barrelroll and then what they call a "snake dive". From launch to station, there is no let up - one sensation follows another so quickly that when you are done you aren't quite sure what all happened on the ride. The ride was hard on my teeth. Through the barrelroll I thought my crowns were going to shake off. Here is a review of Storm Runner: Ultimaterollercoaster.com Storm Runner Review
Back to TTD, here's some more info on that beast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Thrill_Dragster
Check out the video clips at the bottom of the page, particularly the one where a train got stuck at the top of the Top Hat. What I find amazing about TTD is that apparently it is not uncommon for a train to not make it to the top - it just comes right back down to the launch point. From comments I read, this is the ulitimate thrill for coaster enthusiasts because you get two rides for one wait in line.
I like roller coasters, but I'd have to think a bit about going on TTD just from a height standpoint. I've never had the opportunity to try one of those 300+ foot tall traditional coaster behemoths, let alone a launch to 400+ feet peak. Maybe some day...![]()

TTD's height isn't that intimidating because you barely have time to notice it while you're up there. Sure, it's amazing looking up, but you never really get to look down since it's over so fast. The G-forces are about all you notice. Millenium Force, while 100 feet shorter, is intimidating as hell. It doesn't use a chain driven climber, so you don't have quite as much 'hang time' at the top of the hill, but it's still long enough for you to understand why they have an aircraft beacon on the top of the thing.Originally Posted by Gregoshi

After watching Final Destination 3...NEVER going on a rollercoaster again
EVER!

I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now

The dream is gone.

Wimp. Honestly, when has anything like that ever happened?
No, but i was scared of rollercoasters before handOriginally Posted by Wakizashi

Been to Cedar Point and Tin Cow is right, Millenium Force is way more intense. A ride on Top Thrill is over before you know what hit you, there's no time to be scared. Millenium Force on the other hand nearly made me crap myself the first time.
