I do have to agree with one point; I did have some trouble distinguishing exactly who was who. I think they probably needed more episodes than that to explain who people were and where and why they were going places with different units.

A good pacific WWII movie is Pearl Harbor. It has Ben affleck playing in it; which is always a plus.
My favorite part is when Rafe takes his son flying, with the two flying off into the sunset in the old biplane.

If The Pacific had centered on just Sledge, it would have been amazing.

I saw two episodes from The Pacific miniseries; I don't remember any details but I wasn't impressed. Probably because everybody was comparing it to Band of Brothers, wich was great. Maybe I didn't really give it a chance though.

Fantastic Planet. Awesome. Incredibly strange, beautiful art style, touching, moving, trippy. A must see.

    Pulp Fiction
Yeah, I know I was late in seeing it, but Im glad I did. What an amazing movie, really blew my mind.

    10/10

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Though I must ask, did Vincent really die? I mean he was supposedly killed by Butch, but in the next scene he is alive and well. So when does his death occur? Before or after the diner scene?

Yeah, it is an amazing movie. I'm a little less impressed with it now than when I first saw it though - it lacks humanity and the Director's subsequent failure to live up to its quality highlights its flaws (hyper violent, immature and cartoon-like). It's still a heck of ride though.

Not telling the story in a linear way is one of the most interesting things about the film (I love the film Momento for a similar reason).

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The diner scene that starts and ends the film is chronologically the last thing that happens in the story. Vincent was killed by Butch. His partner makes off with the suitcase of money, seeming to foresake his life of violence.

I watched the breakfast club yesterday. I really liked it. I know it aged a bit but it does portray some good characters mostly unseen in todays big movies.
Too bad they had to turn the quiet artistic girl into a barbie at the end, that was a bit contraproductive to the morale IMO.

I saw The Shawshank Redemption (again) the other day.

A couple of months ago I saw the IMDB top 250 list, where it holds the #1 spot. I was kind of sceptical; it had been a long time since I had seen the film and while remembering that I enjoyed it, I didn't think that it was the best movie I'd ever seen.

Seeing it again changed my mind though. There are few other movies that are this good. 9.5/10

That's about right. On the time line, the toilet murder happens after the diner scene. Samuel L.Jackson decides to leave his sinful life and there doesn't meet the same violent end as Vince. A little moral story

You know, I've only seen Pulp Fiction once, when I was about 15 years old, and did not like it at all. At the time, I found it utterly tasteless, somewhat disturbing, and completely devoid of humor. I could not understand why my older brother liked it so much.

But that was over 10 years ago, and now that I've grown up, I've been considering rewatching it. I've watched some more of Tarentino's films and I think I might now enjoy Pulp Fiction. I thought both Reservoir Dogs and Inglurious Basterds (or however you spell it) were great, though I could not get into the Kill Bills at all. So I think it's time I gave Pulp Fiction another chance.

Sorry, ignore what I said - I was hopelessly misremembering it. Wikipedia has a concise exposition of the chronology of Pulp Fiction's Plot:

3."Vincent Vega and Marsellus Wallace's Wife"
    4.Prelude to "The Gold Watch" (a—flashback, b—present)
    5."The Gold Watch"
    6."The Bonnie Situation"
    7.Epilogue—The Diner (ii)

    If the seven sequences were ordered chronologically, they would run: 4a, 2, 6, 1, 7, 3, 4b, 5

I'd agree on the first two - as for the humour, I guess it's a mix of the ironic and the absurd. Whether you like it depends on whether you find it funny to watch, for example, Christopher Walken deadpanning about how, for years in a VC prison camp, a kid's daddy kept his watch ... safe.

I also enjoyed The Great Raid. As a movie, it was pretty awful - poor character development, poor writing, and poor pacing. But viewed as a documentary, it told the story in a very methodical yet interesting manner.

I've seen that one. Good I suppose, but not on the same level as some of the better WWII (European) movies I've seen.

I entirely forgot about that one. I've seen it as well (meanwhile, my original point becomes weaker and weaker...)
    Agreed, it was sub-par.

The Expendables, the cast not being a gimmick would surely alleviate some of the pain of being embarrassingly awful. Some of it.

The A-Team, fantatic, Hollywood at it's finest. Not only does the action leave you breathless, it's actually emotionally moving.

Read the comic it was based on. It's actually quite good.

    Leon: the professional
    7.5/10

Great movie about a mafia hitman who reluctantly takes care of his 12 year old neighbour girl when her entire family is murdered by corrupt DEA cops (including Gary Oldman, one of the creepies villains I've ever seen in a film) Telling more would probably spoil the film.

Now I understand why 'Letters from Iwo Jima' got only 8/10, you are hard to impress. But when you think about it that's good, a movie that you didn't dislike but will hardly remember should be a 5/10 at best.

    Battle: LA

i knew this going in that i would just get angry watching it. Same reason as with any contemporary war film i cant stand inaccuracies of how soldiers operate. Like really some random grunt knew how to drive an lav? Another soldier was able to simply blow a drone capable of intercepting missiles....... with an at-4. The at-4 is an anti tank weapon which isnt even lock on capable like a javelin its a dumb fire weapon system. Just give them a damn stinger instead. Im not even going to go into how the troops often interacted with the protagonist staff sergeant nantz. Then their movement radio usage, formation, combat movement, etc.

however, i expect nothing better from a war film and it was mindless entertainment.

not to mention that he was in for (I think they said 20? it was a long time regardless) many years, and is only a staff sergeant. that always gets me and my dad, hell even my mom is like "wait a second, he would not still be that low"
