Itś pretty damn good, watched the first two. I like how realistic it all feels. The space-battles are awesome, but like old-fashioned sea battles but with railguns instead of cannons

Tomb Raider, really fun. Love the insanily cute lead actress (those eyes!) She is perfect for playing the Lara of the Tomb-Raider reboot-games. Much more human in both body and mind, she is a badass of course but also a very vulnerable and huggable. I got to find her before Natan Drake does

If you hate anime I understand, but give 'Perfect Blue' a chance, it's a masterpiece. Bit confusing at times but that's intentional

Wild Wild Country. Not a movie but a 6-part miniseries. This really blew me away, it's about an Indian guru who purchases acres of land in Oregon to set up a commune that becomes a cult, which pisses off the local ranchers. Won't spoil the rest, watch it with someone.

Chemi Bednieri Ojakhi (My Happy Family)

Real authentic. To offer a fairly insipid comparison with a kernel of truth to it, it's like the Georgian The Meyerowitz Stories.

    It's on Netflix.

    8/10

The kernel: they're all grumpy and middle-aged.

Saw Crazy Rich Asian last night. Fun Rom-Com. Ending predictable of course, but more depth across characters than you sometimes find and VERY smoothly executed and edited.

The night comes for us (netflix), oddly compelling. It is extremily violent, seriously. It is also really violent. And violent.

If I placed bets on me being interested in watching a pokemon movie last week, I would seriously be in debt right now. Because this looks surprisingly good.

Rewatched 'Big Fish', there really nothing I do not like about this movie. The ending is fantastic, not going to spoil it but it's tempting to do it because it's brilliant, a must see feelgood- movie

Well, it cannot be worse than Mario and Max Payne. Just watched In the Fade, which I mostly enjoyed. The portrayal of the mother's feelings was very convincing and it's the perhaps the first foreign film that gives a somewhat accurate image of Greece, without conforming to stereotypes about eternal sunshine and natural paradises. There were only a few weaknesses in the plot, but nothing remotely serious.

The Girl in the Spider's Web was a decent film. Kind of forgot the previous one which I have been before and I haven't read the books, but I was able to follow it easy enough.

Robin Hood was bad. As soon as I saw them in the crusade using bow'n'arrows as if it was War in Afghanistan combat, I facepalmed, then it got even worse when one of the taliban/muslim-defenders used an RPG which fired multiple arrows at the same time. Even had a trebuchet to recreate a bombing run. You can guess the rest of the movie, but when it was like this within 10 minutes, you know it won't improve much after that. When he is actually Robin Hood, there are some good scenes and moments, but it could be that the bar was been set so low at this point, you give up and go with it.

This Robin Hood cannot have sucked harder than Costner's.

I saw They Shall not Grow Old. Peter Jackson did WWI justice in this I think. Amazing work on restoring the old footage and audio. If you can see it, I would rent it and prepare for a sobering 100 minutes.

Absolutly going to watch that one heard great things about that movie. Trench warfare was much more complicated than we think these days there are enourmous structures underground

To make sure we are talking about the same thing, was the first 10-15 minutes pretty much marching in black and white?
Got to admit, I turned over when I watched it, because it wasn't the colour-remake that I thought it was, but that comment of yours suggested it was.

Shrek: Retold is an icon of metamodernism, fitting for having as its subject a very meta movie.

EDIT: Saw They Shall not Grow Old. Good, though ultimately very narrow by design. My screening was prefaced by an American propaganda reel. I mean, a contemporary one. You know the drill, we were making the world safe for democracy, all races participated, etc. Thankfully they cut in the middle of it straight to Jackson's introduction. Did anyone else get that?

Yes, first fifteen minutes was black and white. When the boys arrive on the front line, the restored footage begins. The resolution gets better, color is added and the speed is corrected, with audio added in post from accurate WWI replicas. After the credits, there is an extra 20 minutes detailing the restoration process, it is very time intensive but I believe after the documentary came out they were able to secure money to restore the entire archive. What is shown in the movie is what they could restore in 3-4 years.

Watership hill (remake), sucks. This is nothing like the movie that gave me nightmares when I was young. Where is that horrible vision.

So most people I know turned over (including myself) because of that as it seemed to never end and they weren't really interested in that. I know for next time to just skip those myself.

The Duellists, 1977 - period drama based on the Joseph Conrad story of the same name, with Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine, playing two officers in the Napoleonic army, that after a disagreement engage in a series of duels over the period of the Napoleonic wars

It was Riddley Scott's first movie - a relatively unknown gem of a movie

Mona Lisa, 1986 - directed by Neil Jordan

British neo-noir crime drama, starring Bob Hoskins, Michael Caine and Kathy Tyson. Hoskins plays George an ordinary, tough yet pretty decent deep down, member of a mafia family headed by Caine's ruthless leader character, Denny - who comes out after 7 years in jail to find out that the family has stopped its previous illegal activities and now makes money through prostitution - agencies of high class call girls, street whores and porn film production.

George is assigned as a driver to a high class black prostitute, Simone [Tyson], and after a tumultuous start between the two of them - as George is out of his depth in the environments he is now operating - the two start actually to get close..

When asked by Simone to find Cathy - a young friend of hers that has stayed working in the street under her violent ex-pimp - George, who has fallen for Simone - decides to actually take the plunge and go against the organisation that feeds him in the hope of winning her over..

Blow-up by Michelangelo Antonioni 1966, starring David Hemmings, Vanessa Redgrave

Blow up follows a fashion phoptographer around swinging-era London, in various sex drugs and rock and roll incidents around the town.

Amidst all this liberated euphoria, the photographer witnesses what appears to be a murder as well as its cover up, and the event is so surreal that the protagonist, as well as the spectator that follows him, cannot tell whether the events actually happened or he imagined them..

At the final scene - below - the protagonist watches a bunch of mimes, mimicking to play a tennis match but without a ball, an event as surreal as the murder he seems to have witnessed. At some point the "ball" falls off pitch near him - and teh mimes ask him very poignantly to actually "pick it up" and "throw it in" - yet there is no ball..

The protagonist does so, so that they can continue their game, and then he sadly shruggs off and leaves..

There has been tonnes of interpretations around the scene - yet for me its this: the game of the mimes is a metaphor that in the society/era he lives in, the "ball has been lost" ie the point and value of things - hence a murder can happen and be covered up while everyone rages on in hedonistic escapist euphoria - the roles in society are no more than a mimicking - there is no communication, values, real community anymore.. people are basically going through the motions..

And if you happen to witness a terrible event that shows what's underneath it all - like the murder - everyone asks you [in their own way] basically to just "carry on" like the mimes with the ball.. completely indifferent..
