    Default rendering in 3DS MAX

i have made a carthaginian general for my mod, and have rendered it in max.

The trouble is that if you look here there is white where there should be
nothing. I have tried creating a transparant image in photoshop and trying again but it fails. is there any way to 'discard' the white section when you render?

Press m to bring up the material editor.

Then, copy the diffuse material over the opacity material(the little grey boxes).

Then click on the opacity little grey box, andon mono channel output, select alpha.
