Can archers drop their bow & arrow

I really hate when my army is suprised when there is only missle units in my group (I know its stupid) .

I just lost a battle i should of easilly won. I had two archers units and three horse archers units.

They trashed me coz all i could do is run backwards and shoot when i get far enough.If I had just one non archer unit I colud of hold them back long enough for my archers to finish them of.

Now my question is ,can the archers (horse or infantry) drop their bow & arrow and charge with their swords.

Alt key + Right mouse button = melee attack.

Except they don't actually drop it, as they can always switch to missiles immediately.

Also, you could turn off skirmish mode.. and HAs should wipe anyone out used properly.
