Um, where is this? If there was ever a ban against public prayer, which I highly doubt, I would even think that it would be overturned by SCOTUS...Originally Posted by Don Corleone

I'm not going to repeat myself here. I've answered this from Goofball at least a dozen times, go back through the archives and find where I've posted links. Not only is public prayer banned at many institutions (military, schools) moments of silence where people are free to pray if they choose are frequently coming under fire.

That's really funny, because at my highschool people regularly held a sort of service/prayer outside by the American flag and this was in Madison. And by the way, a school is government property not public propery. Public property is outside. That's why I wonder how such an opressive measure could ever be put into law.
In Military.. truly one cannot pray to themselves if they want to, which is totally impossible to enforce, or someone cannot lead a prayer?
I've tried using the archive search to find many things, things that have only been a few pages back, and it just turns up rubbish. If you're going to make a claim, it is not my job to go out and find it or otherwise take your word for it.
Public Prayer is banned in the United States Military? Heck, we have Chaplains in Her Majesty's Armed Forces... And Chaplains of State Schools...

You have a State religion too.![]()
Fair enough Kanamori, but I'm going to have to call it quits for today. I'll get to it when I get to it.
I will say, as you know, it's not a universal thing... the rulings on what's allowable in a school, at a city council meeting, etc. vary widely from state to state. Amazingly, the US Senate can and frequently does begin it's sessions with a prayer led by a minister/imam/rabbi of one faith or another.
I didn't mean to imply that there is a universal ban on prayer over here. I meant to say that were this truly the Christian theocracy Adrian was suggesting, such people as Ms. Madeline Murray O'Haire would be unheard of.

This is true, The last time I was admitted to hospital they gave me a consent form to sign. It asked, amongst other things, what my religion was/is. I called the Sister over and explained that I was an atheist. "That's OK", she said, just put down CoE.Originally Posted by Kanamori

State atheism more like. The only 'Bible bashers' I know are the 'God Squad' living next door. I actually know a lot more (practising) Moslems, mainly because of the business I'm in. I like most them as well, they make good curries and horses duvres.........![]()

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

There are noticeably more Christians here than any other religion and non-religion (at least in Scotland or Dundee or the West End thereof, anyhoo). The majority of my year at school would no doubt claim to be Christians, and many of them go to Church (not necessarily every Sunday, however).
There is an odd heretical Church along the road called the Gate, to which an acquaintance once convinced me to go. The experience was bizarre, with a Rock band on a stage playing badly and some student saying that it was an amazing and strange and wonderful experience to discover Jesus. I left quickly before they started sacrificing goats or virgins or something... I dream to go one day on behalf of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith dressed in robes like the MTW Inquisitors and demand that the place be burned... but that's all by-the-by...
