Thread: Who would win?

    Default Who would win?

Who would win if all the EB members got into a fight? I'd say Khelvan would win out by the final dispatching of Epistolary Richard, but what does my opinion mean to you? Discuss.

And what's all the hubbabaloo about Gaesatae? They're decent, but not earth-shattering as all this hype says. Just surround the nudists or flank and their morale melts like wax(on suggested settings, VH/M, anyways).

    Moving swiftly to point 2...

I know what you mean about the Gaesatae. In an open field battle they can be overcome quite easily by breaking their morale with javelins and surrounding etc. I haven't had much of a problem with them like that yet.

However, you try taking them on in a seige... it's a very different affair. If they are guarding the gates/breech then expect heavy losses. If they are guarding the town square - expect a massacre.

To be honest though, I haven't encountered them in large enough numbers for them to cause me much of a headache.

Why all this belligerence against EB? This is the second post involving EB members getting hurt in two days. Is the delay of the patch that hard for some to accept?

Perhaps the announcement of the patch being released soon activated some hormone in the masses, and now they feel the urge to post about material they never would of dreamed of before. Hehe, or maybe its this:

I don't have a problem with it... as long as it is clear it is a joke, such as in this case.

Besides, I think an EB gladiator contest would be fun. Too bad Mount and Blade doesn't have multiplayer... we could all head over there and fight it out in the arena.

It's pretty easy I think: Urnamma. Maybe it would come down to Urnamma and Ranika. I'd seed them as number ones in their respective brackets. Divinus Arma might be in the mix there at the end too though.

hmm, interesteing question. DA is probably the toughest, Ranika is the scariest.. and Urnamma has the guns.. lots of them. but as wesley snipes said in passenger 57, always bet on black.
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.

This isn't belligerence. I love EB. If I could bear EB's children, I would, even if it means I'd have to become like Arnold Schwarzenegger in that movie with Danny DeVito.

But it doesn't detract from the importance of the question. As in all cases, the most relevant case is: Who would win? and in this case, it's a BATTLE ROYALE with all EB members.

But I will say I'm tired of the CA bashing. Yeah, it ain't perfectly realistic, but EB, as fine as it is, won't be either. It's a damn computer game. How can you simulate provincial governors charging exorbitant grain prices, then taking a nice cut and passing on the official amount to his higher ups, local elites having their own hosts of warriors that can be called on/paid to fight rebels or enemy nations, etc.? Maybe with literally millions of miles of code, but that ain't happening with the rising costs of game development. And besides, despite some inaccuracies, RTW vanilla was still a rollicking good ride, definitely far better than the usual RTS fare, and the campaign, despite those inaccuracies, provided lots of good "I AM JULIUS CAESAR!" or "I AM SULLA!!" moments. And if you still are steaming like a pressure cooker, look at it this way- RTW vanilla was like Ancient Rome: The Themepark, perhaps light hearted and thin skinned at times, but full of grand times and some small tidbits of historical information(and despite the silliness of Incendiary Pigs, I would be lying if I said I didn't love them. Why, you ask, do you love them? Let me put it this way- WEEEEE!!! WHEEE!!!! WHEEEEEEEENN!!!!!!).

And to answer Gaesatae guy, how about you just build a couple more rams/siege towers/ladders to surround the mofos, or just wait out the siege? Overhyped, I say. No big problems in sieges either. Maybe it's just VH/M settings, but I had way worse problems with Trarii.

Wait, but aren't the Gaesatae modeled on Psycho? That'd seem a good indicator.
Malrubius' thing says he's from Alabama, and we Southern boys are often good in a scrap (or so that persistent Civil War myth goes).
Now, if you went by the little pictures by people's names (are those avatars? whatever), then its a tossup between Khelvan and Urnamma, I suppose.

Brackets are a good idea though. You could put 'em out in March, let people fill 'em out, and then...well, it fizzles out from there, I guess.

Why exactly were you looking for pictures of horses wearing tight, white underpants Zorba?

OT, but I agree. R:TW may not have lived up to its potential, but it is a fine game in its own right, or I wouldn't have spent hours playing it.

As for the Gaesatae: I think the problem was that players initially tried to fight them head-on, and that is exactly what they excell at. If you use the correct units against them, they are not such a problem. However, in a siege, where you don't have the same ability to make advantageous unit match-ups they still can cause a massacre (or so it would be, were it not for the A.I. tendency to have them run back and forth in front of your archers ).

If you fight Gaesatae head-on, use sarissa units, like Triarii or phlangists. They keep those flying butt-monkeys at arm's length pretty effectively, but it is slow going. If you don't have pikemen, then put your units on guard and they'll close up ranks and hold out a little better than they would in loose, I think. That's always seemed to work for me.

Don't surround them either. Leave them a way out. God forbid they go into the "fighting to the death" mode instead of just breaking. They'll go down faster, but they'll kill twice as many of your guys.

Pin them down with pikemen and flank them with cav. Arrows and javelins don't soften them enough.

Then again, I'm used to playing against them on VH/VH, where they fight like angry gods.

Yep. Got kinda repetitive after a while, though.

I am motly waiting for the final version, so that I can actually get somewhere- i.e. conquer cities, establish my own faction, etc.

I was playing the demo the other day, for literally a whole day.

The combat in the game is great, but the enviroments are very depressing.

It's a pitty theres no online play though.
