Default How do I "photograph" my desktop?

How do I obtain an image of whatever I have on screen at the moment? That may be an internet browser page, my desktop, or whatever...

I need it for an assignment!

well, you can make a digital image by simply pressing the "PrntScrn" key (sometimes called "SysRq" or F13). this copies an image of the desktop to the clipboard, which you can paste into an image program (like photoshop or something).
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.

Awesome! Now how do I reduce the amount of space it takes up? I want to make it consume less space without shrinking it or reducing the image quality. Can I do this?

I just pasted it to paint...

I don't think you can do that without violating the foundations of computing.

You can save it into a different format, though. JPEG (.jpg) is a pretty slim file type, althouth I would think that would reduce the quality superficially.

For pictures, save as a .JPG format not .GIF, .BMP or .PNG

edit: Yah, what Alexander said (open the post a long while)

FYI – you can “paste” the Prnt Scrn into lots of programs, even MS Word. Just in case you don’t have Photoshop or another image editing proram.
