No. I consider them quasi-strategies.
I only play non resource, realistical RTS like TW, Blitzkrieg/Sudden strike, an of course, the one and only - Close Combat.
For God, King and Country!
Nope, not once STW came out and showed us how real time battles should really be fought on a PC.
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."

I wish there had been a third option, which would've been "Do you like RTS's", as this would more accurately portray my feelings on the subject.![]()
As it is, I like RTS games in a "beer and pretzels" kind of way. Good way to kill an hour and/or just blow up stuff, but that's generally about it. Turn-based strategy games (and yes, I do include TW games in that genre, even though everyone insists on classifying them as RTS) have always been my bread and butter.

I used to play Starcraft,C&C and Age Of Empires with a burning passion until I made the decision to order Medieval : Total War. After that,I couldn't even consider going back to "zerg-rush"-style rts games. I sometimes do play the occasional C&C/Starcraft now and then but Total War satisfies my strategy urges totally. I enjoy Myth, however, but it's quite different than the other RTS games.
I never really "got" RTS - I mean, what's the point of them? The gameplay seems bizzarre - gather resources, build buildings from scratch, mass troops and charge them into a chaotic conflict. It just seems too artificial and too uncerebral. I like my building turn-based and my combat tactical - so TW is just perfect for me.
I have some time for the original Command and Conquer, but that's just because I really liked the cut-scenes and the story telling for the good guys campaign. An early example of a rather cinematic approach to gaming.
I tried to like Dawn of War. It is more tactical than most RTS and has good atmosphere, but ultimately pales besides a proper wargame (like Warhammer proper and also Total War).
Battle for Middle Earth could have been great. The set-pieces (eg Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith) were brilliantly done. But it was just too ridiculously fast and it was ruined by the need to avoid any units being wiped out during the campaign. If it had a MTW speed slider, it would have been excellent - as it was, it was a somewhat painful experience playing it.
Im must admit I absolutely love Battle for Middle Earth simply because Im a big LOTR fans. While the gameplay was nothing new the presentation ,due to the large amount of resources they could draw from,ie the films, is fantastic.
of course. i really dont like turn based games. Battle for Middle Eath looks good.
