How do I obtain an image of whatever I have on screen at the moment? That may be an internet browser page, my desktop, or whatever...

well, you can make a digital image by simply pressing the "PrntScrn" key (sometimes called "SysRq" or F13). this copies an image of the desktop to the clipboard, which you can paste into an image program (like photoshop or something).
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.
press alt+print Screen and then then open the photoshop or what picture wiever program you are using and copy the screenshot in new document.

Ja Mata Tosainu Sama.
Awesome! Now how do I reduce the amount of space it takes up? I want to make it consume less space without shrinking it or reducing the image quality. Can I do this?
I just pasted it to paint...
I don't think you can do that without violating the foundations of computing.![]()
You can save it into a different format, though. JPEG (.jpg) is a pretty slim file type, althouth I would think that would reduce the quality superficially.
For pictures, save as a .JPG format not .GIF, .BMP or .PNGOriginally Posted by Divinus Arma

FYI – you can “paste” the Prnt Scrn into lots of programs, even MS Word. Just in case you don’t have Photoshop or another image editing proram.![]()

As you can see, I love EB and have cropped their map to fit my potential conquests of Makedonia, Hellas, Italia, Illyria, and Thrakia with the Epeirotes.
I'm also doing a bit of modding, and my first archaic skinning job of Seleucid Companions, oh yeah, and I just downloaded the BF2 patch yesterday...
My desktop, in all it's cluttered, Nazi glory. I really need to remove some shortcuts.

EDIT: It was poking fun at Nazi's. I don't see what was wrong with it. I request that i be allowed to put it back.

You can also use SnagIt.
It allows you to select certain parts of your screen, and it comes with it's own "photoshop" (though extremely simplified).
I have the trial version, and it's well worth it.
"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."
