Default the EB required help thread

    Welcome Europa Barbarorum Fans!

I am Moros and I'm replacing Bouchois, the former member recruitment coördinator.
I've been replacing him for a while now so I thought it was time to make a new thread wich
I would be able to update. This thread is aimed as a place for fans and talent alike to see what position are
avaible and wanting with the EB group. Don't be put off though if the job or thing you thought you could
help us with isn't there. Contact me anyway
; Eb is always happy to see people showing
interest and offering help, and perhaps you never know, the job you wanted might be avaible!

    The current empty spots are:

    high priority:

-Experienced mapper: Currently we need an experienced mapper to update our map. For more info take a look here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=62985

-Scripters: As you already know EB has a lot of scripts in it and even more will be included. But at the moment we have a lack of scripters. You don't have know everything about Rtw scripting but experience would be nice. If you don't have that much experience it isn't much of a problem as long as you are quite active. So do you think you can help us with this?

-Recruitment guide writer: As most of you know EB has a complex unit recruitment system. Therefor we are in need of a guide for EB fans which explains how it works. But as the EB members don't have the time of writing one we are in need of someone with a good knowledge of English and a lot of motivation to write one. So if you think you can help us with and if you have the time contact me. (post here, pm me or e-mail)
    (taken?)

-Modellers: As you know we’re making a lot of historical units. At the moment we have about enough skinners but we lack modellers. So if you can Model and want to help us don’t doubt a second. Post here, pm me or e-mail me. An example of your work is good but not necessary.

    Lower priority:

Ancillary helper: As you know EB has alot of traits and Ancillaries. Therefor we now need someone who can catalog the ancillaries and fill the gaps,... You would be working with Forgus. There are no special requirements nor is modding experience required. You just have to be active. So if you think you can help us and have the time contact me. (post here, e-mail me or pm me.)

    - a Multi player and custom battle stat editor: (quite long name, no?) We need someone to make changes for the stats of units in Multiplayer battles and custom battles. Knowledge of the export_descr_unit.txt is preferred.

    - 3D Building Co-ordinator: We are in need of someone who is familiar with the text files surrounding building placement
etc in cities/ on battle map. This person we need to be able to implement and co=ordinate 3D building work.
As per usual high activity and enthusiasm are welcomed openly.

-Text editor: As you know we have not only changed the game's graphics, gameplay and buildings and units but we've also added a lot of texts: like building descriptions, historical information about factions, trait descriptions, ancillary descriptions and much more. Now of course there also grammar and spelling errors in it (just like this post ).
Therefore we're still looking for people with decent grammar skills who can help us to correct these. Kull, Blacksnail and Lord Elrond have been hard at work but they still could use another hand. If you would like an example of the work you'd be doing you can have a look here:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=60027

-Description writers: Many descriptions are written from scratch within EB. But that doesn't mean they're all there.

-We also have room for more skinners or people with other modding capabilities
    .

See something you are interested in? Perhaps not? Please post here if you're intrested, Do'nt pm me or mail me anymore as I'm away for atleast a long time. you
send an e-mail it may take longer untill I reply). My e-mail is gert.gregoor@skynet.be

Thanks for showing your intrest, the whole EB team really appreciate it.

    -Gert

If you want to offer your help please post here.

I would quite like to help. Perhaps, give a good website with sources, then I can type out some decriptions.

Go into the data/text subdirectory and pop open the file named export_buildings.txt. Search around until you find a section where most of the descriptions are written, but a few are empty - and try your luck with one of those. If you'd like, post your choice here and I'll confirm that it's one we need. As a general rule, we aren't looking for generic versions of what already exists, but rather something unique to the faction that's based on research (be sure to cite your sources!). Thanks!

I'll choose the Tsankabad one. Just one question. I'm kinda new to modding, so in the text file it says this:

    {wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii} Tsankabad
    {wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii_desc}
    Wooden Palisade\n\nNew EB Description Required
    {wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii_desc_short}
    New EB Description Required

Do i write the description into the middle part, or the bottom part?

{wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii} Tsankabad (probably OK as is)
    {wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii_desc}
Wooden Palisade\n\nNew EB Description Required (the full length descrription replaces item in bold)
    {wooden_pallisade_romans_scipii_desc_short}
New EB Description Required (replace this with a one-sentence synopsis of the description)

    Hey guys,
Just recently joined and thought I might put in my offer to help this amazing project. I am no tech-hound, but able to write descriptions as needed. Most willing to write Iberian descriptions - if you could hook me up with your lead Iberian Expert then maybe I could correspond directly with him (not sure how this works) The spirit AND flesh is willing ... but I need a push in the right direction.
Also, I have been playing EB (beta) for a few days and have a list of bugs/issues/questions... how do I handle that?
I'm not normally this clueless - honest!!

Just so you know... this is my dream game. So if I can help in any way...

For the bugs/errors you have collected, check out the bug reports and technical help forum. There is a stickied list of all, well most, of the known errors. If you have any that aren't in that thread, post them in it. As for helping, I'm sure gertgregoor will get you hooked up with the right people.

It looks like most of the Iberian buildings already have descriptions. But you know what would really help? We have exactly ZERO "unique buildings" for the Iberians! I'm actually working up a batch of those, but I haven't had time to dig up something that might be easier - a list of "Natural Wonders" on the Iberian peninsula. If you could hunt around for some candidates and post them here, I'll ask the Faction Lead to select the ones he likes and then we'll give you a shot at writing the descriptions. Sound like a plan?

NOTE: I highly recommend including links in the names so we can get some background on your choices before making the selection. For example, one of the new Iberian Unique buildings might be Cancho Roano.

    Let the research begin!!!

uh... wait a second... exactly what effect on the game are we talking in regards to these "unique bldgs"? I will poke around the game and see what we have so far. The only thing that I've spotted so far is in Iberia (I don't get out much) It is "the western most tip of the world"

can anyone give me some examples?

    Thanks again to all and...

Well, if you want to see all the unique buildings already in the game go to your data/text/export_buildings.txt and search for, "UNIQUE BUILDINGS BELOW THIS LINE". The descrips are not the updated ones, and unfortunately, when I looked through it I didn't see the exact benefits they produced. I don't know if thats what you were looking for or if you were refering to Iberian-specific uniqe buildings and examples. Post if you have more questions or if I didn't answer correctly.

    Survey says: probably.

Still, its almost certainly better than a lot of other things, and its great for the rest of us too. :)

Ok, Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Kull, I see what you mean when you say that you were looking at NATURAL WONDERS. Not alot of UNIQUE BLDGS from that part of the world in that time frame.
Could you do me a favor and pass this on through to the faction head/leader dude?
Preliminary research reveals the following buildings...

Herakleion - The temple of Melkart near Cadiz. The first great temple in Spain. Without doubt of Phonecian origin, it is/was located just 18 km from Gadir/Cadiz on a small Island. It is remarkably similiar to King Solomon's Temple (dated 961-922BC). Of course this temple is not as old as that... or is it? No known references or archelogical proof exist before 700 bc. But it is thought that Gadir MAY have been founded around 1100 bc, and thus the temple COULD be older then 700 bc.
In terms of the game's time frame, classical writers (Greek and Roman) describe the temple. In Caesar's time, the rituals performed there were still Phoenican in stlye and content.
( Sidenote: Melkart was a particularily strong cult in Tyre. He was the protector of mariners and merchants and by 600 bc was indentified by the Greeks with Herakles)
Of course there is more about the temple but that can be filled in if this makes the cut.

Gadir was also home to 2 more major temples... but we know next to nothing about these.

Of Iberian shrines there are three of note,
    i.e.

The sanctuaries at the (1) Collado de los Jardines and at (2)Castellar de Santisteban both located in the province of Jaen. The sanctuary at (3)Nuestra Senora de Luz by the city of Murcia. These sites were a place of worship for perhaps 100's if not 1,000's of yrs. Together the three account for nearly 6,000 bronze figurines (called "ex votos"). There are some 30 other locations (sanctuaries) in Spain that have such bronze figurines, but only as individual pieces. These three sanctuaries are remarkable due to the apparent heavy concentration of worship that occured here. Although likely Punic and Greek influenced, they do seem to be native Iberian.

There is an interesting sanctuary of note found at El Cigarralejo (in Murcia) that seemed centered around the worship of the horse. Close to 200 stone sculptures of horses but only 15 sculptures of humans have been found. This sanctuary caught my attention and imagination, perhaps it will be of interest to others?

Finally there is the site at Cancho Roano - which is truly a remarkable find. Surely this is an example of a "unique bldg"? Kull supplies a nifty link to the website in his previous replies.

Well that is all i have for now in regards to some preliminary research on unique bldgs. I am going to look into more natural wonders and see what I can dredge up.

Let me know if this is at all what you are looking for or perhaps I should be focusing in another direction.

    As always,

    Updated:
we now could also use an "ethnicities helper" (I don't think there's a real word for it.) You would be assisting Equilibrium with this. You can find the details in the first post.

We also could use more modellers/skinners!

And we still need a 3D building co-ordinator!

I know quite well the textfiles so it shouldn't be a problem for me to make text-editing.

I'm also messing around with animations. I'm used to making small mods myself, so I'm passable with a broad range of skills rather than really good at any one thing.

I was unhappy with the current gladius/scutum animation. Holding the shield out like that would kill your arms. This is a WIP.

EDIT: Old animation is below, my new one is above.

    Scroll up!

It's at a slightly different angle so you can see how far the shield is away from his body. In mine, he holds it no more than six inches from his shin (except at full rotating during the strike).

The old animation also has him swinging his arm WAY out there during a stab. He also exposes himself by wildly swinging his shield. Mine aims to be direct and to the point, no fancy swings or unecessary gaps in protection.
