Default I just got my LP player...

... and I am burning all of my CD's. (Well, actually, not really... I still need something to listen to in the car. )

Seriously, I knew records were supposed to be better than CD's, but I never realised how much better! I can listen to a song a thousand times on digital format, then listen to it for the first time in analog- and it is like listening to the song for the first time. From now on, all of my home listening is going to be on records.

The record player, by the way, was my one and only birthday present- it just seems to be a very appropriate gift for turning 20. I would suggest it to all future parents of 20-year-olds, if you do not get them one before then.

The problem with records is that they are expensive, hard to find and most importantly wear off from overuse. So if you like an album a lot it will sound worse and worse as time goes on. That is far to depressing for me. I have a record player at home, I rarely use it though, because I have so few records.

Well, the same can acually be said of CD's; they wear out a lot faster, in fact, and they have a life of only around 10 years.

Actually, if you go to the right place, you can get some damn cheap records- I found one place in my hometown that sells them for an average of 6 dollars- in perfect condition, too!

We need to return to analog. CD's are fine for the car, but other than that they are pretty inferior to records. (Aside from listening time, of course...)

CDs don't wear out at all, because there is no contact, with anything except for the middle plastic part. I think what you mean by 10 years, is the corrosion taht occurs, but that can also be avoided with proper care, like not touching the readable part and cleaning it occasionally.

But it is much harder to find more obscure bands on vynil.

Storing vinyl is horrific too. My girlfriend's dad has an entire garage full of the stuff. But there is something special about it.

Until proper, high-quality DVD music and what-not comes out.

Lies. Most obscure bands release special editions of their albums on vinyl or make vinyl-only releases very, very often.

The bittie started collecting vinyl a little while ago, but she didn't get much beyond some Venom, Celtic Frost and Dimmu Borgir. They sounded fine, but a band can get the same effect by recording with analog instruments and then putting the music on CD.

No, they really can't. I have CD and LP versions of the same records- the SAME records- and I can say for sure that, even if a band's music is recorded on analog, transferring to CD still requires that they transfer the music to digital- and it makes a difference, and not a good one at that.

    Trust me, LP sounds better.

If the sound engineer knows what he's doing, losses will be minimal. I still prefer analog sound, but CD really isn't that bad, especially after years of live shows destroy your hearing..
