Default Geoff Archer says he will vote in Lords.

What to say? The man's an absolute disgrace. He should slide back under the rock he just escaped from.

Now this guy actually does make Blair look good. Thats one hell of an achievement.

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

What? Why the hell did they let him in?

Aside from the fact that he's a lying scumbag, don't the Tory party realise all he does is drag their partys name through mud?

So he might vote on prison reform .
Isn't he under criminal investigation over that coup plot with Mark Thatcher ?
Surely that means there is a conflict of interests issue in any vote about prison .

You answer your own question Suribachi.....
he's a lying scumbag .....he fits right in .

Then again , he should move over here, they would probably give him a cabinet position .

The way things are in the UK at the moment, he'd do well in the cabinet. Lying liars the lot of 'em.

Heh, he's better than Blair, he's just not slimy enough to avoid getting caught, he writes good books too.

I can't believe Archer hasn't been somehow stripped of his peerage by now. It really is rather embarrassing.

I don't know if you can strip someone of a peerage, unless you're the Queen. Whats wrong with his books? He sells well and a fare few people, writers included, say good things about them.

Local Conservative Party Associations are almost entirely independent of central control. The leadership is pretty powerless. Most of these associations are made up of ninety-year old dowagers that Lord Archer can charm. They don't much care about the party at national level.

@Wigferth: Only The Queen can strip someone of a peerage as you suggest, and then only after a protracted process. The good old days of attainder and execution are long past.

In the US, convicted felons can't even vote. In the UK, they're allowed to run the country.

I had to firmly request the young rascal Jeffrey to be quiet at Stratford last year during a Shakepeare performance. Sat just behind me and some friends the dunce was constantly wittering to his wife, asking her what was going on. She seemed just as annoyed with him as the rest of us.

Thats the really annoying thing, that though he may be pondlife, his books are actually rather good (not that I'd line his pockets by buying any these days).

Thankfully, T.Blair and the rest of New Labour have shown us that its not just Conservatives who stick their snouts in the trough when they're in power. Crikey, it took em all of 2 weeks in office to show that. "Why, Mr Ecclestone, two million pounds seems to have fallen out of your pocket"

Yep. That was the starter for ten.

I was always under the impression that prison time was a requirement to be a Tory lord. Only for something classy like fraud though.

I think they removed the prison sentence some time ago. I believe it is now legal...

The US felons can't vote? OMG - you lucky b*stards!

The disgust I feel for that man is rarely equalled. He lies, lies about the lies and just keeps on going. His books are gutter-press machine produced drivel. Readable, but with nothing noteworthy in the slightest.

Queenie could get some points having the bugger stripped of his title, tarred and feathered, then executed. Blair might get the hint...

Archer was at Shakespeare? How long can it be before he branches out into historical novels, beginning with the tale of, er, O'Beth, an, err, Irish Lord egged on to kill the king and assume the throne by his domineering, err, mother in law? No one will notice will they, Mary? Now, what do you think about this idea for a Danish Prince whose dead mother....
