Just have a quick question.

I am hardcore player of all total war since its begining,played and finished all of them many times,but now i havent played it for almost a year.

I just yesterday got a Barbarian invasion so my question is:

should i play the BI or just old RTW,I mean is it better. What should I install with BI....what mod or patch (remeber playing RTR before) to play it as best playablle as possible.

Is there a RTR for BI or is the old one sitll playable with BI.

I will try to help.
1) Yes play BI. it is quite different to R:TW as there are different victory conditions for each faction and very different styles of play.
2) install patch 1.6 and player1's bugfixer, there is also at least one allfactions mod that is available but you won't need that as most of the factions are available from the start.
3) there isn't an RTR for BI yet you would have to check in the modding forum for news about that- I think there might be a darth formations mod but it might not be updated for 1.6.

What I recommend is that you install vanilla RTW and patch it up to 1.2. Then simply copy the entire RTW folder and paste it twice.

With your original folder, install BI and patch it up to 1.6.

With one of the copies, install RTR 6.0 Gold. Eventually 7.0 will be compatible with BI but it's not out yet.

With the other copy, probably wait for the patch for Europa Barbarorum which apparently is imminent.

Then you will have the best of all possible worlds - BI, patched RTW, RTR and EB.

I would definitely try BI before you go back to vanilla RTW or indeed RTR. The strategic aspect is different and interesting (I really like the WREs situation, for example); and I think the combat has been tweaked so that it is a little more like MTW and RTR.

I've been meaning to go back to vanilla RTW with the latest patch - and I enjoyed a 10 year stint as Seleucia in the Throne Room. But I am not sure enough has changed to make it better than the mods.

RTR is my current mod of choice, but that's mainly because the EB beta crashes so much on my computer. EB has an awful lot of potential.

Another question :

Can i start playing BI with 1.4 and than just patch it to 1.6 latter.Will it have an impact on the game like it should or do I have to start a new game for a 1.6 patch to work properlly?

I ask this coz i can't download 1.6 till monday when i go to Colledge (sp) coz at home I have a crap connection.

The differences between BI 1.4 and 1.6 are not to my mind nearly as significant as the changes between RTW 1.3 and 1.5. I'd go ahead and start a 1.4 campaign.
