    Well, the first thing you need to understand is that Paris is bigger than Belgium. Secondly, if you spot a lot of Americans and Chinese, you know you aren't going to find anything vaguely resembling decent prices nearby. Just take a métro anywhere a little out of the centre and you should be okay.

    There are 10.000 restaurants in Paris, there should be something of you're liking somewhere close to where you are staying - ask a local, anybody who looks like they would eat or club or drink coffee in a place that you'd enjoy.


    Else, take métro 2 to station 'Ménilmontant', and try rue Oberkampf ou rue Ménilmontant. In the XIe and XXe arrondissements. You'll find what you're looking for.

    Well, a Belgian can virtually pass themselves off as French (providing they're not the Flemish sort), but try getting a friendly reaction if you are English in Paris. Virtually impossible.
    The rest of France, however, is a different matter. I have met many delightfully helpful, charming and friendly French people out of the capital. Even the Parisians seem to lighten up when they're away from the big city.
