    Default Carthago and Rome

Ok now playing with Carthago....and after being attacked by the romans I take a good army across the sea and take Roma...after a few turns and after a few new buildings i find myself with a half depleted army and no way i can train or retrain units except some skirmishers...which dont fare too well against the loads of triarii they keep throwing at me.
Anyone knows whats wrong here?...why cant i train carthaginian units in Roma...or any kind of units except skirmishers?

Because there aren't any Libyans for you to train there. In EB units can only be trained in certain provinces.

    Tip:

Go out and hire as many Samnites and merc phalangites as you can. I conquered most of Italy with mercs.

Tip: Build units you need in Africa and ship them to the front lines to replenish your losses. As it was said in the meantime fill gaps in your army with mercenaries and local ally troops.
This is what Alexander was doing so i guess its a good idea.

yea I noticed that with Carthage too... for being a major trading nation in antiquity you really cany afford all those mercenaries they require to be a military force for quite a few years

Yeah...I had like one good army in Africa....that i used to get Roma...a full stack in Sicily with low lvl troops and a medium one in Iberia(they declared war on me thus cutting trade routes and therefore preciosu income)....besides that i was counting every cent...no chance on expanding in Africa...and after upgrading the barracks in Roma to Lvl 5...what do i get?...weeeee some nice unarmoured javelin throwers... :) the triarii they keep sending liked that...
But that all belongs to the past...patch is here...and i am enjoying it greatly...no ctds so far (started a romani campaign)...it takes almost no time to load the game...i have only one word for EB crew...THANKS...you're doing just fine, keep it up.

On the reverse side, playing as the Romani with an axe to grind with the Qarthadastim, will I be able to recruit Leebi-Feenikim or Libyan Spearmen when I get to and take Kart-Hadasht? Because I've already taken Lilibeo, but despite setting up MIC and government systems, I can recruit neither (despite prior reference to the unit recruitment spreadsheet) and I'm a little worried in case my consular army gets stuck in Africa with nothing to recruit.

as of the hotfix, neither lybians nor liby-phoenicians are recruitable to anyone besides the qart-hadastim. iirc, at some point in the future 'wild' lybian units will be available down there for the other factions.

Oh alright, I guess that adds a bit of challenge to it :) But boy, the Romani are sure far more limited in recruitment compared to the other factions... No alae up for recruitment until marian reforms...

Heh...you just have to use your navy to keep rotating your armies.

Historically, for example, the Iberian campaigns were on hold several times after the roman armies there got defeated.

They closed down the campaigning season, dug in, and awaited for reinforcements that would enable them to resume the fighting in numeric superiority and also allowing them to coerce their allies into continuing the war.

augh that sucks. Army rotation is no problem, but my grouse is that there isn't even some cheapskate 'town-watch' specimen unit that I can recruit as a garrison. Detaching hastati from my army isn't going to cut it, after some time...

Well...with the Romani, I usually throw full bathtubs of gold to the other factions....as I have too much of it....after taking the italian peninsuela I usually build up for a decade or so and after that I am at loss what to do with all that money
    Roma must be destroyed

what difficulty are you playing on Nightstar?
I play on h/h and when I conquered the Italian Peninsula i did have a legit amount of money, but not enough to throw it away in diplomacy with other forces. Upgrading all my towns was enough to make me be picky until further expansion

I currently own the italian peninsula (but not the tribal cities up north), sicily, northern spain and southwest gaul, and most of Greece up to Athenai, and the Balkans up to the Getian provinces. I currently have 4 fullstacks in the field, one newly-bribed in Asia Minor, two in Eastern Europa, and one in Hispania. I make about 40k a turn. But that doesn't usually accumulate much because I always find a need to spend it every two or three turns.

    @Soibean

I play on VH/M. And after building up the cities I often have 10k in surplus, sometimes more.
