It would be virtually impossible to create a world that looks like that the way it's currently done though. Games already need hundreds of people to make, greater graphical detail only increases that.

That's where procedural routines come in; though it's in early stages now hopefully one day it'll be able to fill in a whole range of things such as textures or even layouts, taking some of the load off programmers.

By the way, you did read the bit about it taking some nine hours to generate? One frame? Long time before our computers can handle that.

And shouldn't this be in soft- and hardware?

    Good grief...
Everyone except the top one looked real...
But getting that into a game would be difficult...

    Holy s@#%!

They were corny, but apart from that, it`s insanely well done. PC games won`t have that good graphics until 2010, I guess.

I remember watching the movie UHF, they had a computer rendered scene with boxes for torsos. A 180 MGhz computer can run half life, which had better models. Eventually, we'll be able to run these kind of graphics. Procedural creation programs will probably be licensed like physics engines too.

Come on, those pictures were not made in 3D. The man was lying! They were photos!

I'm skeptical too. But he did show some Wires screenshots.

I meant in the future. How many years? 20 or 30?

And shouldn't this be in soft- and hardware?
If it can be moved why not?

Not more than 10 years! I think you are underestimating tomorrows graphics.

Remember what took weeks to render in Shrek etc can now basically be done in real time on a standard computer. Give it a decade or so. Absolutely beautiful.

Would be a shame to get blood all over it shooting someone though. Have to find peaceful games to play.
