Cool Idea for keeping under 50K

I've never seen this mentioned in any post, so I'm posting it: not only you can queue up expensive buildings to keep under the 50k threshold, but you can, at the same time, queue up expensive units that take 2 turns to build (1 turn-buildable units are no good if you don't want to actually build them) mainly wardogs, as they are easy to get and they do not require a lot of recruits (I must warn you that queing up units takes out not only denari, but also people). 10 wardogs = minus 6800 denari, which is something, if you are desperate to keep under 50k. Just pay attention and check your unit building queue every turn if you don't want your cities to become Dogville.

At least dogville would be a great defense against barbarian factions.

Bribery would also work.. there's no point keeping to much money if you won't use it anyway so why not get a few extra family members.

    Hi

    RTW V1.5 Julii Imperial Campaign

I also used surplus money to help a struggling faction.

Macedon and Greek City states were fighting Brutii in Greece. The faction graph showed Macedon was broke. I gave Macedon cash gifts. They could buy more units and fight on harder against Brutii. Thus would weaken Brutii who would be an enemy once the Roman civil war kicked off.

This worked. Allowing my Julii to expand eastwards through Dacia and Thrace whilst Macedon contained Brutii in the south.

If your trying to stay below 50k, why not make increases to a unit's recruitment cost and upkeep per turn? This can seriously drain your funds, and will limit what you are able to do in terms of expansion at the start of a new imperial campaign. You may also find that you don't have enough denarii left to retrain units.

Watch out though, if you increase these stats too high then you'll be struggling for denarii throughout the campaign. Use sensible values rather than 0000's etc.

Try giving "presents" to allies or even factions that you want to be more aggressive. In vanilla Rome, if im one of the roman factions im always helping the other two with gifts of about 5000 every turn. It really spices things up.
