    Just started with STW. Wow! I'm glad to find a game to replace Broderbund's Art of War (very old, I think it was for the IBM PCjr!). For all the strategy games I've played, I've never had to manage such large armies real time!

    I think that the Art of War (I played it on the original Macintosh back in '81) was probably the FIRST Real-Time Strategy/tactical game out there. Predated Dune II which is what most people consider to be "first."

    But it's remarkably the same - A couple different unit types, armies running around on a big map, and when they meet, you zoom into the Battle Simulator, where terrain gives you advantages.... the best ideas are always stolen!

    Sounds about right, but STW is on a much larger scale (as are the computers). I didn't expect much when I bought it, but I was sooo tired of chopping wood in Age of Empires II. I am pleasantly surprised with STW...and I think I'm dreaming in Japanese now.
