I tried Arcade Style battles, ONCE. I thought that it would be good to have unlimited arrows when archers were on the walls, as I am sure that there would have been more than one quiver per man available when there are 3,000 barbarians outside the walls.

What I didn't like was the fact that when battles began, there was no opportunity to deploy them where the archers, nor anybody else would do a bit of good. When the game starts, and all of the enemy is at your Northeast Corner, and every archer you have is on the ground over by the West Gate, every one of them has to be moved to where they are useful before they ever start shooting.

Normally, my archers kill about half of the enemy army, the cavalry about a third, and the walls most of the remainder. Infantry rarely are even able to engage. With Arcade battles, archers kill less than 10% if that.

Arcade battles may be fine for me, but I prefer to stay out of them.
