Thread: Foriegn language forum.

    Default Foriegn language forum.

On the RTR forums there is a forum where people can discuss the mods in other languages, why don't we do that here.
All we need is speakers of foreign languages to moderate it, i could moderate the french forum.

Too many forums = too messy.

Many people are from different countries and speak different languages as well, you probably won't find more than 10 regular posters who speak the same (non-english) language and are going to speak here.

I'm not against speaking native language:
-English isn't everyones first language, some may speak it hardly/not at all, but really need help with something. Happened a few times in the past, kudos to those members who could speak French, Turkish, Spanish.. to help members in need.

-I'm fine with the occasional speak your own language topic like we see in the Frontroom.

-I'm against the bitching in your own language posts. Insulting in English is sad (but does happen at times ), cruel insulting in your own (non plain English) language so the other doesn't 'understand' or you think you can dodge sactions, make you a disgusting coward too (I'm putting it nicely and yes I'm aware I slap a happy few now: good!).

So, using some native language every now and then (in a positive way!) is no problem at all. But to actively promote it? What can happen is that everyone only communicates in his own tongue, the result being that less people will be able to (even remotely) understand each other and less information can be shared.

Communication is a two-way proces: the sender and receiver put in some effort to understand each other. A communication tool this board is.

There are dedicated French Total War forums.

    This one's okay: http://www.totalwar.fr/forums/index.php?act=idx

But, it lacks scale. You just can't beat a site or a forum that can draw from an English language fan-base.

And once you accept you're on an English site, there's little point in taking away it's strength. People are here precisely because it's in English, because of the global reach of the language. Fragmentizing it into lots of tiny language compartments would defeat the very reason for coming to this site in the first place.
