    Default EB not running

Ok i just dl'ed and installed EB and the patch and it doesnt work. I unistalled everything reinstalled RTW the tried to reinstall 1.2 however tells me the patch is already there so i dl the zip and extract it myself, then i reinstall EB and the patch tired it without the patch also but i keep getting this right after the game starts up

    Script Error Data/descr_sm_settlement.txt
    line 304 colunm 1
    expected culture type found nomad

I did go into the file and found the line and where it says nomad what is it supposed to say so that i can fix it?

    thanks a ton
    Val

Update: I unstalled everything agian and installed in a new folder Rtw worked fine until the 1.2 update and now it just crashs this may have something to do with the fact that it is the gold edition of rtw however i recently played rtr 6.0gold which is made for v1.2 and it worked fine. anyhelp would be great

I keep getting a crash to desktop after five turns in the Roman campaign. I unistalled and reinstalled but still get the crash. Frustrating as the newer version looks very good--but I just cannot play it. SPQR, RTR, TFT and RTW all play fine, seemingly happy in their own seperate folders, but no luck with EB. Note that the first beta played without crashing. So, what can I do?

    Dear Val,
It looks like 1.2 appears to be installed but isn't. This happened to me so here is what I did and it worked.

    1. Uninstall everything and reinstall to level 1.2.

    2. Try the game. It should work OK as RTW. Make a save and quit.

    3. Press My Computer-Local Disc-Programme Files-Activision-Rome Total War and that should take you into files such as Data, Docs, Zip etc.

    4. Double left click Docs. Help and Readme should appear. Open Readme and the 1.2 page should appear. If it is not, there lies your problem. It hasn't taken.

    5. Left click back to where the Data, Docs and Zip files are.

    6. Double left click the Zip File and Data, Docs and an Icon should appear. If by any chance the Zip folder is not there, download it again to your desktop, open and follow instructions as below.

    7. Copy each of these files and paste them individually into the Data file that is in the same page as your Zip file. If you are asked to overwrite any that is OK. Say Yes.

    8. Now run game without installing anything else. It should work fine.

    9. Go back into My Computer-Local Disc-Programme Files-RTW. Open Docs as before and check Readme to make sure that 1.2 page is there. If it is then come out and make copies of the whole folder.

    10. Then install EB as instructed. I installed each download separately playing and saving as I went. That is 7.2, 7.3 then hotfix. It works just fine with no CTD's so far on two machines.

Well ive been trying to get it to work all night and here is what i came up with. I have the gold edition to RTW and though it is 4 discs 3 for rtw and one for BI its also prepatched up to 1.5 already. So now what im trying to do is "un"patch it to 1.2 I saw a guy that said he did it for rtr but didnt explain how and i cant find any info on it either. So if anyone could tell me how to downgrade the version that would be great.

The only other thing i dont understand is when i tried the game with RTR6 which is 1.2 it worked fine let me load 1.2 and everything. Now i get the patch already installed of course and ive done it manually just results in a CTD right after rome starts.

Baldrick--thanks! That change detailed on that thread seems to have solved the problem. It made sense, as soon as the ptolemy icon came up, the game CTD. Since making that change with the ptolemaic port, the campain is running fine now. Cool! great call!

    Hello,
New member, not terribly computer savvy and never posted before so please excuse any mistakes. First, I love this mod. The depth put into it is unrivaled. However, I've found it to be incredibly unstable. I do realize its a beta.

I have a new computer that I'm playing on: Intel Pent. D 830 (dual core), 1GB ram, & 128 MB video card. I have the original download & updated patch 7.3a. Last night, after making the correction regarding the numidian port, I played as Pontas for 30+ campaign turns (I auto-battle everything). It was the longest I've ever been able to play without getting a ctd to desktop. I saved my game last night hoping to continue today. Now, I can't get it to run at all. After clicking the desktop shortcut and loading the initial screen, it crashes. I've tried everything. Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Dear Val,
I have never installed the gold edition so I can't help you other than to say uninstall everything about RTW and BI. Check files to see it has gone and delete Activision folder as long as you don't have another game installed from that company. Press start and delete Activision from that list. Any other place that you may have RTW files go into and delete.

Once that is done reinstall RTW and nothing else.

Go into My Computer-Local Disc-Programmes-RTW and you will see Data, Docs etc, Open Docs and you should then see Readme. Open it and see what version is installed. It should only be version 1, and that is good. If it says anything above that I'm afraid you will need to get an original RTW without BI as it would appear your gold version is automatically installing to a higher version.

If it says version 1 then install 1.2 as I wrote earlier and follow each step as written.

Apart from someone else's help I don't have any other method myself.

    Yours,
    basics.
