I got the game a few days ago, and I know that you all think this game will be disappointing. Still, I brought the game, and it is actually very, very good.
Graphics: Performance: 8/10 Eye-Candy: 9/10
Now, all the new games coming out have quite lazy programing. The graphics look awesome but it frames like hell. So you need to do with a sub-par level of graphics, and you just wish that the previews with the awesome graphics actually worked. Now, the demo for Empire at War had a rather over-rated graphics. The graphics wasn't dog dinner, but not being as good as the graphics in the previews for it. Now actually the graphics were reduced to help lower the file size. In the full version the graphics are much better. You can run at almost full graphics, with the exception of soft shadows, heat distortion, and blooming. I tried it with them, and you never notice the difference when you switch the thing off. Also, it runs at a nice FPS, so you will enjoy it. So the game combines lovely visuals
Gameplay: First Glance: 9/10 Long-term: 9/10 AI: 9/10
Now, where to start? I'll start with the diversity. The Empire has hordes of units, but only win by sheer brute force. They are dominant in the vehicle department. The Rebels are few in number, but are very skilled, and will stand to the last. The Rebels are dominant in the infantry department. The Rebels have attrilley that destroy all infantry instantly, and also have a anti-vehicle unit, something which the Empire lacks. What the Empire has though, are speeders, which drop bombs, that counter infantry and attrilley. They also have giant AT-AT, which are nearly invincible. Rebel snowspeeders will topple them over, and destroy them. In space, the Rebels have X-wings, Han Solo, Mon Calimari crusiers and a lot more. The Empire had TIE fighters, Boba Fett, Imperial Star Destoryers. The Galactic Conquest mode is actually really good. It's always a struggle for the Empire and Rebels to hold their planets. The AI is very smart. After all LucasArts worked on them for six months. A thing that happens all the times is that you gather all your fleets into one, and send them off to some planet to conquer. The Ai would sneak some fleets by and invade the planets without a fleet. Also, there is two modes of play in the game. you fight up in space, or you fight on the ground. The space mode is brilliant, and truly captures the atmosphere of the Star Wars saga. One thing is that you are only have a pop cap of 25 in space. there are mods which allow you to have a bigger pop cap.
Moddalbility: Guess: 9/10
I'm a crappy modder, but almost all of the games contents are in XML form, which is meant to be really easy to mod. I don't really know.
Multiplayer: Lag: 7/10 Gameplay: 10/10
The multiplayer in this game is amazing. You can go on a proper campaign, and you can save it to play another day. You can also have skirmish battles, on space or on land. The epicness is still there. Which is terrible, as the things lags quite a bad amount, and sometimes won't negociate with the other players, so you can go on it. It is a shame. There is a patch coming out to make sure that lag is reducing siginifintly, and that connecting is much easier. I hope so, as it stands at the moment, the multiplayer isn't very good.
Total: 9/10
The game is really great fun, and the only stratgy game for Star Wars to be brilliant. I would love to see from fellow Organs to come on to the multiplayer servers! If you want to know, my name is StarDestroyer485656. It's pretty noobish but I tried names like Crimson_Elite or Copperhaired Berserker! but it said they were already in use. So I had to use a rather fanboyish name. Anymoo, I hope you enjoyed this.
-Copperhaired Berserker!
