Default Fighting a unit not on the battlefield

    This was strange

I could not target this Dacian unit even though it was well onto the battlefield.

The description of the Dacian unit says its waiting to enter the battlefield.

When I ordered my Equites to run through the Dacians to a spot beyond it, it caused a fight well enough.

Explanation is, I think, there were a few straglers not yet on the battlefield.

Just another lovely bug that occurs when an obstacle impedes movement onto the field. It's just as bad when occurs to the person as you'll have a unit just march right into the middle of the A.I. army and it can't do a thing but get slaughtered.

Yep, happens when there's an obstacle like a rock or cliff between the off-field unit and the edge of the battlefield. They men lose formation going around it, often getting extremely strung out. Since you don't get control of the until until 100% of the living men are on the field, the unit is largely useless and may even wander right into the enemy.

Yes, I had that bug last night - I had a massive army deployed on a hill and an enemy unit marched right up to my lines without auto-fire kicking in at all. Later more of the army came and all hell let loose. It was annoying at the time, but in retrospect could simulate the kind of misidentification problems that occur in battle ("I thought they were our boys...").

This unit of mine never made it onto the battlefield. The building blocked its path.

Fighting Brit chariots I wanted all my Barbarian Mercenaries so it was pretty annoying.

Looks as though you've been bribing the locals as well...

I've experienced a variation of this apparent bug, but it doesn't involve units entering the battlefield. The variation I've encountered is the scattering, fragmentation etc of a unit whilst on the battlefield, either before or after they've engaged in melee. Here's a link to the post made in the RTW v1.5 bugs topic:

    LoL

Haven`t experienced the bug you`re talking about, but at least twice so far, a soldier in a fleeing unit has got stuck on the middle of the battlefield. Take ages to find him. Odd thing is that he doesn`t have any obstacles in front of him.

lately I have the problem that enemy units seem to get stuck in between my cavalry...

something that is reaaaaaally painful if you have archers around... because they will kill more cavalry then enemy.

The truly annoying part of having a unit that can't get onto the battlefield because a rock formation is in its way is that you can't withdraw the unit without it running onto the battlefield into the waiting arms of the enemy. If you can run onto the battlefield when you're routing, why can't you do it when you're not????

At least it's one less unit to worry about. When I tell MY cav to rush the enemy light cavalry... they actually ran into a nearby phalanx

You can imagine what I thought. It was a silver chevron unit...

"It was a silver chevron unit..."

Now its a smaller silver chevron unit You did get it out of there didnt you ?

Another dimension of fighting a unit not on the battlefield. Is working out where the enemy will deply. Working out where they will deploy, and where reinforcements will appear can give you an advantage.
