    Default Pbem for n00bs?

    Hi there!

Since the entrance hall seems to be one of the few places where I can post at this stage of membership, I'll try my luck here, even though I already found what I'm looking for in the Throne Room.

Right now, people there are just about to start up a new pbem, whereas another one is caught up and stuck at the moment, so it seems. I'f there's any chance, I'd like to ask for being allowed to join in on the fun there.

Of course, at the moment I have no chance of proving any of my commitment, so I guess there's no other chance than to find out by giving me a shot at pbem'ming and see whether it is a worth a try (which I definitely believe it is )

Would love to join! Hope to hear from one of you out there at some point.

    Cheers for now,

    Menelmacar

    Sounds good, thank you

Currently, Ignoramous is supposed to be the player but if we haven't heard from him by Friday, Braden will go next. You are welcome to take the turn after him. I suspect he'd be happy to sign you up for his planned PBM too.

I wonder can new members use private mail? That might be a useful way of coordinating.

That actually does work, so much I have found out with the help of Ludens (thx again )

I've also been able to get into the upload section of the throne room (though I haven't tried to up- or download anything there yet), and read most of the threads there. Basically it's just me not being able to post, while fanatically following you all in silence.

That reminds me. As of the end of this week, I've got 4 weeks with a lot more free time.

What PBM's are you playing? I've got RTW 1.5 and Mundus Magnus 1.2 .

    BI didn't work

There are two PBM's running: WRE 1.6 and Seleucids 1.5. I am not quite sure about the WRE one, but there are two players waiting for the Seleucids. Also, Braden has posted polls about the subject and the rules of the next PBM, which will be for 1.5 as well.

How far in is the Seleucid one? I won't volunteer if it doesn't look like I'll get a turn. I'll just wait for the next one.

The Seleucid one is pretty far in. We've taken Greece and need to march onto Rome. I suspect two more players (20 years) could do it, although they will have very busy decades (the Romans are strong). I'd recommend keeping a watching brief on it as there are three potential players lined up but you never know.

I've decided to wait for the next one. I'll concentrate on my current Pontus campaign, until the next PBM comes around.

    Thanks anyway, Simon

Ok guys, I’m currently down to start playing the current Seleucid 1.5 PBM campaign (Ignor is having download problems which I hope to solve) and I am currently organising the “next” PBM.

Now is the time to influence the Next New PBM in the way you want it to go! I have two polls running at the moment. One is for people to Vote on what Faction they want to be playing and the other is for people to Vote on how many turns it will be for each player – two very important subjects.

    Please visit the threads:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=62441

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=62442

If you are in anyway interested in joining the PBM community please vote so you get the game the majority of players want. The Polls are up for a week.

Remember PBM is currently the only (trouble free) method of conducting a multiplayer Campaign.

Not being able to post – I’ve never had this problem myself and I don’t understand how it’s caused. As your PM facility works I suggest you PM a member of the Admin team / Moderator team as it is very important that you are able to post on the relevant threads. Feel free to PM me directly in the meantime if you have any questions about the PBM – I can, and will, post your comments on the appropriate thread in the PBM forum if it’s a question for the community as a whole (and if you request it).

About the next PBM – this will be a Rome version 1.5 game and is likely to start in the next 10 days or so. Although the campaign difficulty will be Very Hard the battle difficulty level will still be Medium (unit size will be Large). These settings are the best balance – VH Campaign gives us a more aggressive and organised AI whilst Medium level battles means that most players will still be able to beat the AI on the battlefield.

There will be varying levels of Victory Conditions as well, which will (hopefully) include special Glorious Achievement style targets.

All this means that the Campaign will still be challenging and interesting for experienced players whilst ensuring N00bie players can still be able to hold their own. If you’re a n00bie who can beat the game on Medium / Medium then VH / Medium will give you a new challenge without feeling you’re completely outclassed by the AI at every turn.

I hope this pre-empts some questions you may have and that it may attract the attention of more potential players.

Game level sounds fine to me - I usually play VH/VH on vanilla. But this should make for excellent chances for roleplaying.

    Looking forward to join in!

Btw, as a junior member (this seems to be the reason for me not being able to post in the Throne Room), I'm also not able to vote there. But if somebody wants to include my vote: I'd be in favor of trying out a Macedon or Gallic campaign - always wanted to go for the challenge and see the world dominated by the famous phalanx or the celtic blade...
In the end I'd probably vote for Macedonia - I find battling all those rebel states a bit annoying as they never even think about crossing country borders, not really realistic in my opinion. For me, it usually ends up in a "get out of my way" battle. But that's single player of course, where in a pbem it could turn out to be a great "get out of my way, you vile rebel state that has haunted my grandparents' grandchildren in their dreams for years!"
Still, I'd prefer Macedonia, right in the heart of the map with enemies and challenges in every direction.

However, the house rules for Carthage sound cool enough for me, so I'll be happy to play that one, if I get a chance.

For the other poll, I find Tricky Lady's suggestions quite satisfying.

    Any other questions?

As I can't vote a 2nd time on your behalf I'll make a mental note for Macedonia.

Can you please confirm that your able to download a .sav file from the Guilds storage?

Jr Member? Ahhh....do you mean physical age? Being an old gimmer, I didn't know there were such restrictions but it seems logical if so. If you mean just post numbers, then I didn't hit that problem myself.

Whatever, as long as you can use PM, can access and upload/download .zip save files and have an external email address then there should be no problem. Even if you can't access the upload/download I can, and could pass a .zip file to you on email (they're only about 600kbs).

Downloading works, I think uploading will work as well, otherwise I'll just post the zip-file to you or whatsoever. Same thing will probably happen to those write-ups.

Actually, promotion is not dependent on postcount, but on participation. Therother explained the current system here. However, this system wasn't in place when Baden registered, so for him promotion only unlocked the Backroom of the Tavern.
