Hi Braden![]()
I've voted for 10 years as it is the norm in RTW PBEM's I've participated in. It also means the write-up becomes more manageable.

I think the faction leader's "life" would be the best option (this seems also the best option from a PBM write-up point of view).
You should just be careful not to select a very young heir, as this might cause the player's turns to become too long.
Perhaps the system applied in the WRE PBM would be a good example (= ensuring that the faction heir is in his 50's by the time the faction leader dies).
I vote for Tricky Lady's suggestion - play a full reign, but make sure the successor is not too young.
Yeah, definately reigns, and the WRE system of trying where possible to appoint an older heir seems to have worked well.
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."

Ditto. I find that the x-number of years just breaks the flow of the story, when an entirely different writing style is used during the same leader's reign.

Hi there,
from the story write-ups I've read so far, I'd also go with Tricky Lady's suggestion for the reasons stated. Talk to you soon!
