Talking Best leader of our time.

Ok, so we've seen the posts, we've read the threads, and we have trash talked just about every world leader of a major country. bush is an idiot, blairs a whimp, chivec is a jerk, ahmadinejad is a phsyco, and north korea is to obvious to state.

so then in your opinion, who is the greatest national leader in 2006. will he be chinese, or nordic, or other, you decide.

Happy to play, but I need some clear definition of parameters first. Greatest by what criteria?

one who has won the love of his populace by bringing his country massive profits, or lifting the status of living in his country. he who has brought his country into a better light as viewed by the rest of the world.

Angela Merkel's start has been promising.

Of the leaders of other major countries, Blair is the only one who isn't a complete and utter joke.

I'd go for Viktor too, even if the Westernization of his country seems to be trading one mafia for another.

George Bush, definately needs to be up there. He's the only leader around with a backbone these days. One of the few politicians who will righteously raise their middle finger to the protestors if he believes it could help our country. Sure you can rag him for the war in Iraq, but every president since the gulf war has wanted to invade. Clinton wanted to invade but was talked down to sending over some cruise missles. People may disagree with what he does, but at least he does it for the right reasons. He isnt like those guys in congress who wouldnt kill an ant if it meant it could offend .00001% of the population. Bush is truly a leader, and not just a politician.

Instead he offends 99.9999% of the population.
He gets a C or D by his supporters on this forum.

Guts without sence doesn't make a great leader.

On the homefront I would give Göran Persson and B, but having him as the greatest leader would be

The "problem" with decent leaders is that they rarely end up in the media, so I cannot really say anyone from the top of my mind.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

It's a pretty poor crop at the moment. Does it always seem this bad at the time? Maybe better in hindsight...

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

When he said our time I assumed that he meant THIS DAY and forward, if it is 100 or 50 years back, clearly Lenin or Mao would take the spot!

Yes Maybe we'll know their names in 50 years from now, maybe not... But I think the best leader is to find among those who haven't been in the papers.

Toughie. Not too many good world leaders today, but I like Merkel and I like the Polish dude. Putin would be cool if he wasn't such a commie. I dunno if Sharon is still alive even, much less a world leader. If he was, he'd get the honor without hesitiation.

Kim Jong-il gets honorable mention just for being weird. I mean, come on. Look at the guy. He's pathetic.

Might as well nominate Castro as well. His ability to stick it to the big guy constantly and come out more or less unscathed astounds me. A toast to him!

Unnecessary right wing agitation. Check again "leader" vs. "hero". And recheck "hero" vs "what you think is an hero".

    EDIT: Spelling.
