In my experience, as I have several female friends who play games such as this, and one who is a high-profile game developer, many women who do play such games see themselves as "gamers" and not "girls," and hate to be treated differently than male gamers. Thus, they tend to avoid threads such as this like the plague, as these are generally populated with teenage boys (and I don't need to extend the explanation further).

My wife played RTW quite a bit; she's rather busy with her lab-work at present though and has not got around to giving EB a go yet.

There are more male than female wargamers around, for both computer and miniature wargames, but they do exist. As khelvan noted, most of them don't really like being considered for their novelty value.

Hmmm.... That's kind of a shame. Girls can and often do think differently than boys and can provide criticism and advice on things about game design that men wouldn't notice and vice versa. If there are girls playing EB the very fact that they are girls might mean that they have a different perspective on a variety of issues and details in the mod that may be constructive to all parties involved.

I actually once saw a pretty good looking girl that played FPS games, but so far I've never seen a pretty girl playing strategy games of any kind...

The intelligence factor of this forum just dropped a point. Now I could make my sister proud and yell and scream about you being a shallow sexist, but that would be hypocritical of me, however I would like to make the point that I know plenty of attractive creatures of the female persuasion that play video games of all types, bloody hell mate watch G4TechTV a lot of the staff for that network are game playing ladies.

I agree with ya there, Lord Khelvan, Master of the Universe. It's social pressures mostly that force those kind ladies from playing video games, since it is not seen as "girly enough" to do so, and generally for both genders as "childish" and "immature". Of course I disagree, but eh that's a whole 'nuther can of worms.

However, I must also defend The Handsome Viking. That character is quite humorous, and was intending to just get a rise out of people, whether defensive(in a lady's case), sexist/chauvinist(which is ridiculous, considering the social pressures described make it hard enough to meet said ladies for all of these posters), or (as in my case) laughing at his absurdity.

And because I also point and laugh at fat people.
