Default Unit Size effect on gameplay?

Does changing unit size change the way the game plays to any noticeable degree?

I've been playing MedMed for absolutely ages with the unit size set to default, but having just downloaded the latest version of Wes's great Mod and being on the verge of playing the scots, I thought about increasing the troop count as well.. good/bad idea?

Troops take double as long to recruit on huge (or the largest setting -whatever that's called). This does quite has an effect on difficulty.

Troop size also affect troop costs, but doesn't change the economy otherwise. I think the AI does better (financially) against me on default than on huge unit size as it takes twice as much to keep up a full stack army so they go broke faster.

ah, on the issue of going broke, is there any reason why modding the florin amount of the other factions is a bad idea?
I say this because I notice that MedMod (and presumably others too) has gone to a lot of trouble to ensure that factions don't go broke by tweaking the way the game plays.

However, in my last game, I just gave every faction - other than myself of course - 1,000,000 florins. I'd assume even the crappest AI would take some time to exhaust that!

THe only downside I can see to that is having to remod it every time you start a new game but that should work for a while. Also, you'd probably see the AI bribing a lot more.

Also the AI may go on a bribing frenzy if it has seemingly bottomless pockets.

I don't know about the AI being harder or not on different unit sizes but the way of playing changes.

Cavalry becomes more important on smaller sizes because relatively speaking infantry units shrink more than cavalry units. A single unit of cavalry can do more damage on infantry than on default size
On larger sizes the infantry becomes more important because of the same reason as said above. Relatively speaking does the infantry unit grow more than the cavalry unit and the cav is thus less powerful against infantry.

I played the game on huge unit size always in the past because I prefer the 80, 120 and 200 size units as opposed to the Large 66, 100, 166 sizes. I've never played on the default size as the units seem far too small. I prefer epic long drawn out defensive battles with large armies, for this type of battle large or huge is necessary, though I no longer play huge as the 2 year training times seem to stunt the AI's growth somewhat.

On a side note, missiles are more effective on larger settings.
