Default Russia fed US intel to Saddam

This can't be good for relations:
The Russian government collected intelligence from sources inside the American military command as the U.S. mounted the invasion of Iraq, and the Russians fed information to
Saddam Hussein on troop movements and plans, according to Iraqi documents cited in a Pentagon report released Friday.

The Russians relayed information to Saddam during the opening days of the war in late March and early April 2003, including a crucial time before the ground assault on Baghdad, according to the documents.

The unclassified report does not assess the value of the information or provide details beyond citing two captured Iraqi documents that say the Russians collected information from sources "inside the American Central Command" and that battlefield intelligence was provided to Saddam through the Russian ambassador in Baghdad.

Makes you wonder what else they were up to in Iraq prior to the war doesnt it? Or even afterwards for that matter- could they be supplying insurgents?

Exclamation Re: Russia fed US intel to Saddam

The Russians were able to buy information about our military movements? Egads. Who might have sold it to them?

    TOM DELAY AND THE RUSSIANS

Last year the Washington Post reported that in 1997 Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff went on a lavish golfing junket to Russia that was paid for by NAFTASib, an Abramoff client with "tight connections to the Russian security establishment."

A couple of weeks after the Post story appeared, NBC got hold of actual hotel records from DeLay's stay at the Moscow Country Club. The records showed that room charges for DeLay and Abramoff were mingled together and then paid for on the credit card of Alexander Koulakovsky, general manager of NAFTASib.

But it turns out the junket is the least of the story, because after the trip NAFTASib also gave money to the U.S. Family Network, an advocacy group closely associated with DeLay. Lots of money. A million dollars, in fact. And just what did the Russian security establishment want from DeLay? Did they really spend a million bucks via NAFTASib just to influence DeLay's vote on an IMF bailout — as one of DeLay's associates admitted to the Post? Who knows.

But whatever it was for, Peter Stone has a new piece in the National Journal today informing us that even more money was involved than we thought. Through a front company, NAFTASib also donated $250,000 to the U.S. Family Network before DeLay's trip to Moscow. That payment came shortly after a lunch meeting in Houston, and Stone reports that "the meeting has attracted the attention of federal investigators."

It seems that the information that was fed to Saddam made the war more likely. He had the impression that the invasion would not go ahead because the French and Russians would prevent it. He did not do as much as he could have done to prove he had no WMD's (because he wanted to intimidate his neighbours), making it easier for the USA to go ahead with the invasion.

Were the Russians fed wrong information in the knowledge they would pass it on?

Read about this in the paper today, briefly.

From the article I browsed, most of the info was inaccurate or moot.

I heard they suspected it was someone inside Centcom. Nonetheless, if DeLay took money from the Russians in exchange for votes... by all means, nail his ass to the wall.

    Yo Bros...cool down...
The whole shit was framed. Perhaps, the mole had been nailed long before they decided to go public.
Who could belive this? Pentagon going public acknowledging its own blunders...
Neverthless, I couldn't help myself not noticing that this statement was made a few days after Russia and China had refused to vote against the Iran's Nuclear Programme.
