    Default 7.4

    Dear All,

I have been playing as Rome 7.4 quite happily in a new campaign. I am on the verge of defeating Macedon having conquered Epiros, Sardinia and Sicily and all with no other help from any of the captured towns or cities. Apart from the main five Roman cities I cannot raise troops, that is Roman troops, anywhere else. I can however raise from another three cities in Italy local tribesmen but not outside Italy's borders. Sometimes it can be annoying especially when under attack and needing reinforcement quickly, but on the other hand I suppose that having to shuttle troops across the Empire is only what Rome did in reality. It is a great mod and the makers have to be congratulated.

Most of the provices all over the mediterranean are capable of training at least a limited amount of Roman troops. But you need a lvl 2 government building, which takes 14 turns to build. If you have the time, you must build this type of building to be able to recruit anything more than regional troops. Since you have taken over Macedon, build at least one of these buildings in the largest province you have conquered, both to maximize the amount of troops you can recruit and to ensure better population loyalty.

I think it's intended that Romans can't build Camilian troops outside of Rome. There are quite a few posts about it...

    Dear Cheexsta,

I can't get anything other than what I wrote apart from peasants in town after town. In fact I cannot even see level 2 buildings. 1,3 & 4 yes but still no troops other than peasants. Any Legionaires I shuttle from the cities in Italy as mentioned but the distances are now becoming just a little too far.

And such are the pressures of maintaining a large empire where your citizen troops form roughly half of your armies. Hell, if the game was to be completely historical, then you'd only be able to recruit Roman troops from Rome (which, until the Socii Wars, was the only city to have full Roman Citizenship), but I guess in the way EB does it it represents Roman citizens living outside of Rome itself. *Shrug.*

That all said, if you think there's a recruitment problem then check the Temporary Recruitment Guide and report it to the EB team.

Also, I think the lack of Government Level 2 buildings for Rome is a known bug. I'm pretty sure I've seen it posted somewhere...

The socii suplied troops in the same hastati-principes-triarii trinity as Rome, so I guess that's why...

Yeah, and of course the expansion of the Ager Romanus throughout Italy and the placement of Roman and Latin colonies throughout the penisula.

You said you can recruit peasants only... Have you moused over the unit card? Most of Rome's auxiliary troops have a blue peasant unit card because they aren't finished... This may be your problem.

Yeah that's what I was thinking he may have thought. A lot of the auxilia troops available don't have their finished unit cards and so they appear on recruitment queues as peasants. However, they might be pretty good troops. Some of them represent cavalry and I have seen some ships that have the peasant unit cards too.
