Is there anyway to prevent this I mean since the Imperial reforms are not done yet it would help with early game immersion.

Yeah, just go into the EDU and change the attribute, general_unit to general_unit_upgrade under entry 236 (roman generals guard cavalry). Hadn't noticed that, thanks.

This will delay the problem until the vanilla marian reforms that will probably happen even before our current polybian reforms. Also in vanilla EDU the late gneral units have both attributes general_unit and general_unit_upgrade.
If all your new roman generals have equites singulares guards you can swap around their position with the equites consulares in EDU (on position 237, so that the earlier guards come first in EDU.
Any word on what exactly the conditions will be for the various reforms in the upcoming versions?
Thanks for your help guys I'll give this a go when I get home from work.
