RIP indeed. Solaris is a great book, but, what was not to like about the movie? I thought it was pretty close to the book, and great to look at. Though admittedly the horror of the whole "what is a simulacrum of my dead wife doing here ?" thing was rather blunted by the dead wife being Natasha McElhone...

RIP, Solaris was one of my favourite books as a kid.

An exceptional novelist. My father introduced me to him with "The Futurological Congress' which fascinated me as a budding scientist.

I must say, I liked the Russian film version of 'Solaris' much more than the recent one, though I tend to agree with Lem's criticism of both.

    RIP.
