Thread: A Hearty Thank You To player1

Default A Hearty Thank You To player1

I was a little miffed when RTW first came out. All the bugs and playability issues turned me off big time. I didn't play the game again until just this past month when I installed 1.5 and player1's bugfixer. Now the game, IMO, is what it should have been when it was released. I'm loving it.

I'm sure that everyone has thanked player1 for his dedication and hard work but I thought a separate thread to thank him was in order. I tip my hat to you player1! Thanks!

It's become a necessity to play the game, rather than an 'extra' patch to it. I already said it many times, but what's wrong with more? You're one of those who put their time and effort into the game, to make things better to the whole community. Every community needs people like you, and luckily we have many (In MP) but only you in the SP aspect. Thanks a lot for the time you spent doing this. It's our job to make you proud of it.

Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much."

CA should allow digital downloads of mods and player1 patches on their website for a small sum which would be passed onto the people making mods or unoffical patches. CA could take a small cut as well.

I think it would be a clever business model that would greatly extend the life of games.

For the mods, I think that's actually a good idea, as it would encorage the mods too. But if they were doing this with BugFixer, it would mean them charging extra for stuff that shouldn't have been bugged to start off with. The sale price of the game is supposed to cover QA. Now CA have created a complex game, which they deserve credit for. And they have repeatedly patched it, which they also deserve credit for. But the QA, whether it was handled by CA, Activision or Sega, frankly sucked, as we can see from the enormous list of basic bugs that BugFixer has to deal with. What player1 has done - unpaid, individually - is what the developer's or publisher's QA should have covered for a game that went to market at £34.99.

EDIT: Back to the actual topic - I heartily add my thanks to Player1 for making RTW an exciting prospect again!

It would certainly be nice if CA payed more attention to the mod community on its website. However, I disagree about charging money for this: it means CA would take responsibility for the content and quality of the mods available, which they cannot. Also, I am not in favour of having mod teams charging for their products, except perhaps voluntarily donations to pay for hosting space and such. Turning projects of enthusiastic volunteers into commercial ones can ruin the community.
