More of a by birth product methinks.
In RTW it is far easier to get by creating the health/fertility temples and having family members stay in the city. After awhile they will get "in the pink"... quite useful as they seem to live longer, hence bigger families.
As for access to different forums you start out with Junior member status and over a short period of time will get full access with Member status. This is in place to stop trolls. Also all the other forums are on topic only, while the Entrance Hall is any topic from any of the other forums within reason (no Tavern style topics like the Babe thread or politics). Members tend to give more leeway to questions asked in the Entrance Hall while in other forums they may just sharpen their claws.
BTW your name is going to require a change, as it is a PG site with 10 year olds plus.
What virtues are obtainable by sending your king into the thick of combat?
'Roman Hero'
'Scarred'
Student by day, bacon-eating narwhal by night (specifically midnight)
I was talking about MTW. So what virtues are obtained by sending your general into combat?
Kill a thousand odd prisoners in one battle and you will get one of the 'bloody' virtues... get too many of those and it turns from a virtue to a vice... something about your King bathing in blood makes the population a tad afraid.
You can fing full list of vices and virtues here

To answer your question, kings (and generals) get their battle V&V according to the actions they did on battlefield. So, if your general is especially good at attacking, he'll get Good Attacker; if he avoids combat himself he'll get Not so bold, which decreases morale of his men; if he executes prisoners during battle, he'll gain no mercy; if he attacks first, leading his men from the front, he gets Fine leader.
Of course there are many more V&& your general can get on the battlefield, I mentioned just few of them
